Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I try to be very thorough, even with my own works. IF it's possible, I prefer to be able to converse with authors, be it over IM, PM, skype, or some other form of communication. I wouldn't say I have a specific style of betareading, it varies due to the kind of story. I expect people I beta read for to be respectful, and not take offense if I state something is wrong or mention a recurring error. If you would like me to beta read for you, please request so and we can exchange some form of information and I can talk to you about it. I reserve the right to reject a story if it doesn't meet my interests, however me using that reservation is highly unlikely. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I exel at the emotional side of writing, such as conveying emotions and thoughts, as well as the visual, such as describing places, people, events. I can read and write and follow fight scenes, as well as follow dialogue and help make changes to fix something. As for the emotions, I am much better at darker, more bitter writing, some might call it disturbing. PTSD and such are things I've experienced and researched so I have personal experience and clinical with it. If I have watched/read what the fan fiction is based on, these things are only hightened. Editing sarcasm and dry humor is probably one of my stronger suits. It is easier for me to detect the intent behind these things than others. IF you wish to convey certain things and aren't coming across the way you'd like or not as good as you'd have hoped, I would be of great assistance. ( I feel like I sound like Thor or something .) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am not very good with the more joyful emotions, I can't connect easily with overly happy writing. Sometimes grammar can slip my mind but when I'm actually reading over work I can find it. I'm not particularly great with editing things I've had no experience with, however I will do research and adapt as best as possible. Everyone has different writing syles and mine tends to differ from most I've seen, probably due to my lack of "formal" training. I tend to go with my gut, which might upset some authors because it can cause plot upheavals. However I will adapt as best as possible to your style. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Chances are, if it's listed on my actual profile, I can and will edit it, aswell as enjoy it. I will edit for Anime, Movies, Games, and Books I have watched or read. I can say I prefer romance stories over anything else, as long as there is a plot involved near the front burner. My categories are not limited to the specific ones mentioned in my beta preferences, however they are what I had the patiences to put lol. I can read either homosexual or heterosexual stories, although, as my profile suggests I prefer homosexual stories. (I don't know, it's something about the dynamic of it. It's hard to explain and I've long since given up trying. Yes I am a female.) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will NOT read or beta any stories that are PURE smut. The occasional sex scene every few chapters or so is okay, but please be considerate of my sensibilities. I'm all for a heated make out session if it's called for or fits in, but a story based on sex and no plot is severely boring and I would choose not to have anything to do with it. I will review and edit oneshots however, as they require a different sort of take. A chapter story however, will not be read by myself it it is complete /br /br /br /br / br /br / br / br /br /br / br / br /br / br / br /br /br /br / br / br /br / br / br /br /br / br / br /br / br / Also, I would prefer not to edit anything that is a romance story from a young childrens show, such as Lion King, Cars, Incredibles. And I will not read incest, there is one exception with that, being the Hitachiin twins from Ouran Highschool Host Club, as that is actually written into the Anime. I think that settles it, I can't think of anything else as it stands. ( I feel overly professional, I'm sorry lol.) |
