Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
To be clear, I do not want to have to rewrite your entire story; that's just not how this is gonna go. Although, I don't want the rather blunt tone of that statement to put you off; I'm not a mean beta-reader. Even if your writing is terrible I'd rather tell you how to fix it than to just say "Awful, don't ever talk to me again." I want you to tell me what you need help with. If you think your grammar is fine and would rather me not edit it, say so. If it's specific aspects of the story that you aren't sure of, ask me! I've chosen specific categories to beta-read because I know them; I can tell you if you've used the wrong name or if your characters aren't in the right /br / As far as grammar and punctuation go, I'm pretty patient. If you have a lot of errors I can take the time to correct them for you, if you make an effort to improve. If I've beta-read several chapters for you with the same consistent errors I'll only stay your beta-reader if I have the time, but it will be grudgingly .br / br / Time-wise, I almost always have a secure Internet connection, so that shouldn't be an issue, but life does get in the way sometimes. I will not just abandon you though! I will tell you ahead of time if there's something I know about coming up, and at the very least inform you that I'll be away for a while instead of leaving you hanging. Please tell me if there is a strict time that you need a read done with! I don't like leaving a project for more than a day or two, but if I have to prioritize that will help / br / And finally, I want you to talk to me! Tell me if you don't like something I'm doing! If you have a specific way you want your editing done, tell me, and I'll do my best to accommodate. If you don't think something I've edited is right tell me why, don't just say it's fine, it's your writing and ultimately, it should be the way you want it to be. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I've selected categories specific to what I know. I think beta-reading is just as much about the story itself as it is about the physical writing, if you get what I'm trying to say. I can tell you all about the characters back-stories and their personalities, the places, the universe that they exist in, etc., etc. If you need help with that, I'm your /br / If you find yourself repeating the same words or phrases, or not being sure if you've worded something right, I can help fix it! I can do grammar and punctuation too; I'm good at that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
The itty-bitty things. I usually catch them, but I'll be the first to admit, there are enough times when I don't to make it worth mentioning. Things like were and where that don't even sound the same I don't miss. When it's something like swapping two letters and making a word that spell check doesn't catch, but is still wrong, I might miss it. Sounds improbable? Not at all. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love romance; I really do. It's awful of me, but that's just how it is. I like smutty stuff too! It makes me giggle when I read it, especially funny smutty stuff. (Angsty, angry smut, too, don't forget that!) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
There isn't really anything I don't like, as long as it's good. In my mind I split story types into two files, like and love. |
