As a betareader, I allow the writers to make their own corrections rather than just editing by myself. I also have suggestions and comments at the top of the document (be it any form). While I am correcting a story, I mark a certain word, phrase, etc. and place the suggested correction next to it, so that the writer/author can see the places he/she needs to fix and why. Also I will not correct every error, but I will correct it once and mention in the suggestions/comments on what needs to be done to properly fix the mistakes.
