Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm open to almost anything provided I've watched/played/read the show/game/book categories that writers are requesting me to edit. I am, for the most part, thorough in editing and will adjust sentence structures to make thing flow better. Should events seem to be coming off in an awkward manner I will let the one I am betareading for know this. Before I make any significant changes to stories, I will run them by the author after giving my suggestions for improvement. I'm usually good at getting edits done quickly, but if things get complicated or life gets in the way I will let the author whose story I'm working on know so they can decide whether to wait or go to another beta. As I haven't done this before I'm still figuring out what my betareading style and expectations are. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My grammar and spelling is good, I've been both praised and criticized for action scenes and the detail I put in stories, and I am very talented at getting down the correct characterizations for characters. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As I haven't done this before I'm not aware of all my weaknesses, but here are a few. I tend to overuse commas and suspension points and I'm not too great at fighting scenes, though I've been praised for some battles I've written before. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm open to pretty much everything. It depends, really. Preferably the story will have little to no vulgar language, but depending on how bad said language is... If an M rated fic has subject matter that's too adult to be rated T but still isn't explicitly gory or graphically sexual, I'm willing to beta it. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Yaoi (I'm no good at it so it's sort of pointless to ask), sexually explicit stories, racist works, fanatically spiritual works (a little is fine, but you may want to check with me first), and graphically gory stories (I can take it to a degree, but not ridiculous levels). |
