Hi there, you can call me J. I guess what you should know about me as a beta reader is that I am very thorough. I will give lots of notes for how to improve a passage, sentence, or story in addition to correcting spelling, grammar and usage mistakes. Weirdly enough I do enjoy reading and correcting other people's work, and would be truly flattered if you chose me as your beta-reader!

As I said before I'm really thorough when beta-reading a piece of writing. I'm very good at grammar, spelling and the like, so if you have questions or concerns about anything of that nature, I'm a good go-to beta! Also, I pay a lot of attention to connotations and secondary meanings of words, so when reading someone's writing I can notice and recommend changes for words that seem a little off. But in spite of this attention to detail, I'm also a very supportive person. I respect anyone who is giving an honest try at writing, and won't talk down to someone just because they have a few spelling errors. In addition, I'm very open-minded so you don't have to worry about shocking me with something, I can handle just about anything.

My major weakness is definitely that I can be a little too anal when reading over someone's work. I can end up trying to make a piece of writing sound the way I want it to, and not pay enough attention to the goals of the author. As a betareader, I would try to work with the writer to make sure I am not imposing my own preferences on them. Aside from that, I do have the typical human weaknesses of becoming tired, bored, or complacent from time to time, so if I miss something at first, and I very well could, please don't crucify me.

I don't have any preferences as to what I would like to beta. I'd really be up for anything, as can be seen by the Beta Preferences section of my profile. I would tell you if I am not familiar with a fandom that you are writing for, but I don't see how that would interfere with beta-ing a work for the most part. As a quick note, though I would only accept fics that are written for the most part in English, I won't exclude those that have passages or lines written in other languages. I am pretty good with Spanish and Japanese, and am familiar with German, French, Italian and Russian. Other than that I know my way around a translator.

As I said before, I don't think there's anything I would flat out refuse to beta. I think that all work has its merits, and even if it's not something I would choose to read on my own, that's no reason I shouldn't lend my services to its improvement. That being said, things like heavy suspense, gore and general horror are a little harder for me to get through, so though I would still beta those types of stories, my revisions might take a little longer to get back to the author.
