I'm a pretty harsh/picky beta reader. When I have my work beta-ed I appreciate complete honesty and pickiness, so that's what I try to give other writers. I can beta just for grammar, but I'm happy to beta for bigger picture things-voice, plot, etc.

I am very good at grammar-related beta-ing. (I am an English teacher.) I also believe I have a good ear for voice, provided I know the characters well enough. Also in the totally-random category (because this actually has come up) I can HELP with anything in Latin, Ancient Greek, or Old English. Really. It has come up.

I'm not very good at saying that something is good. It's not that I don't think what someone has written is good. It's just easy for me to only point out faults. Also, I'm not good at coming up with plotlines. I can tweak them pretty well, but completely new ideas...not so much...

I prefer friendship-focused fics with character exploration/development. I LOVE humor.

I do not read slash or graphic sex. I do not really like romance. I don't want to read h/c or angst for its own sake, though some h/c or angst serving a larger purpose is fine.
