Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a frank beta-reader, and am not one to mince words with the author to whom I offer my services. I will offer a critical eye with regard to grammar, content, and characterization, but I won't stick around if it's made clear an author only wants me to say how great their story is. In my opinion, if you need a beta, you need aid, not a pat on the back. Please remember this when dealing with me at all times, because I will always type what I mean, but I'll keep my filter on-that is, I won't make you feel like trash intentionally, just suggest alternate routes, because I don't think many reviewers are very good at leaving tips that actually help in the story. If you're still reading this and want my help, I will tell you that I am available on virtually any day in a few hours at the worst, but I won't be available for too long at any one time, so returning edited material may take a day or two. As an author who chooses me as a beta, I'd like to make clear, right now, that I will not, ever, under any circumstances, help you on a crack! story, or matching up a main character with your OC. If you have a Mary Sue, I will make it absolutely clear to you that you do before I take my leave. All that in mind, feel free to ask me, and I'll be sure to get back to you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm relatively good covering basic grammar or spelling mistakes, but I do have occasional slips. I excel at watching for out-of-character moments, or plot holes that may go over some reader's heads. I'm a better content beta than a form beta, but I will work at both to the best of my abilities. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As I previously mentioned, I'm not a perfect grammarian, so know that in advance. If I'm not informed of the basic plot in advance to my beta work, I cannot guarantee quality, because I won't know which twists and turns are best to allude to in any given place, or what should be left out in the long run. So if you already have an idea laid out relatively well, I can better serve you. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Almost anything anime or literature is fine by me, and if I don't know the one you plan to write about, I will do preliminary research. Note the almost in the beginning of the first sentence...I'll be getting to that in a moment.Anyway, I specialize in the Dragonball Z/GT universe. I'm quite into it, and am well versed and craving a good read there. Also, all things Disney, and any works that they based the films off of, such as Alice In Wonderland, or Peter Pan. Again, I'm a huge anime fan and know many well, especially FMA, Naruto, Zatch Bell, and many other major anime or manga. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Primarily? Mary Sues/Gary Stus/self inserts. I don't like the concept, and that's a personal decision. I prefer the fandom to OCs, so please don't ask any of those stories of me. I also don't like crack! fics, or super! fics, or harem fics, for that matter. Other than that, ask away. |
