Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Being new at this, I'm not exactly sure how this beta-ing thing works because I've never experianced it, but I'm pretty sure that I could figure it out pretty easily. And if it's your first time ever having a beta, we can stagger through the darkness towards the light together! br /br / So my style. . . uh, don't know much about that. But I can assure you that I will eventually, and always, reply to you as best I can. Until further notice, I don't have the most reliable Internet, but I do have it, so you can be assured that I will recieve whatever you send me and will reply as soon as humanly possible. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm an action kind of girl, myself; I'll read it, I'll write it, and I'll love it. You want battle scenes? Give me a rough draft and I can go through and make it more presentable. I also like dark, gritty stuff. If you find that your horror story is turning into a fluff-fest, give it to me. I'll get it bloody for ya. br /br / Oneshots and drabbles are also some of my strengths. I like finding themes and words or phrases to build off, and taking little moments from a character's "life" and writing about them. You want oneshot/drabble insparation, give me a fandom and a character that I know well and I'll rustle up something for you. br / br / I also have a thing for minor/secondary characters. Believe it or not people, your story is NOT only about your main character and their love interest! The story may revolve around them, but the world does not; they have friends, they have moms, they have ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, they have talking pet dogs, they have teachers and neighbors and random people that they talk to on the school bus or at the mall or on the battlefield. You want your secondary characters to have some time in the spotlight, or a bit more personality? Try me; I'll try to fix it for you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't do a lot of romance. I like it, and I will beta it and tell you if it's too steamy or not steamy enough or if somebody's mom needs to come bursting in the door, but I don't write it much. If you want me to water it down, now THAT I can do, but not much else. I like writing friend/family relationships more than romantic ones. br /br / Humor is a weakness of mine, too. I have written a bit of it, but it takes me forever to think up and get down in writing. So if you want your story to be funnier, I'm probably not the best person to ask - BUT. I CAN tell you if it really is funny. I love reading humor, and if you've written a bit that you think is funny but aren't sure about, I bet I can tell you. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'll take just about anything. Oneshot series, drabbles, sagas, short stories (2-6 chapters in my opinion), chapter sories (which I'd say is probably 7 chapters and more), whatever. I'll take any kind, too: romance, action, crime, western, fantasy, friendship, angst, anything. I can't promise that I'll be a lot of help on some of them, but I will take them. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Real, hard-core, trashy romances. I don't mind a bit of lemon, but if your main character is getting people pregnant in every other chapter, I won't do it. Wait, let me rephrase that - Your character can get people preggers in every other chapter, just not in extreme graphic detail. Got it? Good. |
