I have one of two styles when I beta. br /br /

1) I beta as I read, cutting down on spelling errors that I may miss if I forget about them when I'm re-reading. br /br /

or 2) I beta after I read through the story/chapter once. This gives a higher chance of missing a spelling error but allows me to focus more on the characterization and grammar details of the story.

My strength is my ability to catch spelling errors. Since I live in America and have read enough stories via internet, I can recognize foreign spelling (I live in America) fairly well and know when something is spelled that way on purpose or if it was on accident.

My weakness is editing the characterization of a character when betareading. I do fairly well if I re-read the story/chapter a multitude of times but even then, it's never been my strong point and I excel much more at the structure and grammar and spelling of a story than the information in the story itself.

I have no trifle with canon/non-canon pairings or OC's being introduced in a work. I do, however, generally dislike cross-overs except in extremely rare occasions.

I'm very picky about the fics I read so if it's not on a subject that I know and at least look at positively, then I will not read it or at least the pleasure I get out of reading it will decrease exponentially thus decreasing the success of the beta-reading.
