Well, I've got a lot of faith in myself when it comes to writing, editing and all that. Not to be cocky--I know I'll screw up at something and I don't wanna have to eat my words--but I'm usually pretty hard on myself, so c'mon, if I feel good about this I'm probably worth at least a bit, right? I write and edit fairly seriously, so as a general rule of thumb I'm looking for serious stuff--not that the story itself is serious, necessarily, but stuff that you've taken time to write, y'know? I don't wanna waste my time working on something for longer than you, the author, have. Also, the more information I have about your work the better: stuff like the mood you're looking for, where the story's going, if you've added bits of foreshadowing, how the characters are thinking and feeling, etc. Ruin the story for me if you have to. I'm editing this thing, not waiting on the edge of my seat for whatever happens next, since that'd make me a terrible editor. Different mindset and all that. So... yeah.

Grammar, sentence structure, flow. In short, language mechanics. I'm no English major, but I like to think I've got a pretty good handle on the aforementioned, since I tend to focus on details. And though I'm not all that great with the broader aspect of things (see below) I'm a bit anal about plot developments. That is, I'll call you out on any ridiculous/poorly executed/overly-cliche events that pop up.

Broad things like overall consistency, characters (their development or how true they stay to the canon) and the like I'm not so great with.

I like dark stuff; stories without happy endings. (But happy endings are cool, too. It's a minor preference; say, I'm 60% for dark, 40% for fluff.) More importantly, I'm looking for quality work. If you think you've got something good going on, then I'm totally down. If you hacked together something overnight and aren't sure what it's worth, I'll probably have to pass.

Crappy stories, comedy ('cause most of them aren't actually funny), silly one-shots, uh... stuff like that. I take editing kinda seriously--probably too seriously, but whatever--and I'll only bother doing the work if it's something I would've read anyway. (Uh, I can't figure out how to quantify that, so I guess just look at the stories I've written and my favorites. Sorry. I promise my editing is more fruitful than this description!)
