Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I tend towards the dramatic, always add plenty of description,and adore cliffhangers (when I'm not on the recieving end, that is :p). They keep the audience on the edge of their seat and makes them want to come back for more. The key to good story writing is entertaining the audience and making them want to know what happens next.
When I look through a story to edit, I first run through to find spelling and grammer mistakes, then go through a second time to tweak a word here or there. When editing, it would be nice if it's as easy as possible to read what you're trying to say, and if there is anything in particular you want left alone, message me please. Clear, easy to understand, and straight to the point messages keeps both the editor and writer informed and communitive with each other, leading to less misunderstandings and frusteration. Which in turn leads to better stories and the editor and writer still being friends after working on the same story for a while. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I focus on spelling, description, and freedom of thought. So basically, just because I don't agree with an idea in your story, it doesn't mean I'm going to change it. That would be tyranny. I'm good at adding the subtle hint here or there to events later in the story, cliffhangers, and can be very patient. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses are sometimes over description, and making my short stories a little too complicated. My mom informed me a couple days ago that my short stories apparently sound like the first chapter to a book a lot of the time. I've been working to improve on these problems.
Another thing, I tend to write in sentence fragments. Always in places where it makes sense, but sentence fragments are sentence fragments, after all. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer to edit fanfiction based off of material I've already watched/read, for many reasons. Mainly for understanding what's going on so I can edit more effectively, but also to prevent spoilers for anything I might want to see. I enjoy drama, fantasy, mystery, school life, romance, dark humor, and vampires. Oh, and explosions. Explosions are awsome. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'd prefer not to edit mature stories, since this is a shared computer, though I probably would still prefer not to. I'm also not a big fan of light comedy, or team sports. Never, ever, EVER sports, especially since I don't know anything about sports. Well, there's one exception to that rule. I DO curl, and it's not a loser sport as some people would say. I don't mind sci-fi, but I know nothing about computers, so don't rely on me to be editing a bunch of numbers and words I have no idea what they mean. |
