Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am not an English professor or anything like that, so if you want someone with real world credentials, I will disappoint. However, I am an avid reader, from fantasy to science fiction to poetry, so I have high expectations when it comes to grammar, spelling, and overall story writing. At the same time, I have used run-ons and fragments in my own writing, artistic expression as it were, so I'm not a "Nazi" when it comes to that sort of thing, as long as it doesn't detract from your story. The story is what's most important. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love to read, so I have a expansive vocabulary and am a stickler for spelling. While I will always try to give constructive criticism, never will I try to change your voice or writing style. This is your story, not mine. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to read very quickly, so I can look over words in my haste. I will do my best to look over the piece several times, and I've found reading out loud really helps. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I've read all sorts of genres, from games, books, TV shows, movies, what have you. Though I have a special fondness for science fiction and fantasy games, TV shows, etc. For example, I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Final Fantasy, and Anne Rice novels, to give you a better idea. I work with any pairing, yaoi, yuri, or regular old het pairings. I don't mind reading violence, gore, or horror, as long as it works in your story. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
There's almost nothing I will shy away from. However, if you're a true blue newbie to fan fiction and write at a third grade level, do not send me your work. I will not read it, but use it to break in my delete key. Also, I'm not a big fan of what I call "vanilla" writing. I want angst, conflict, sarcasm, sex, drama, all that really juicy stuff. Though I do enjoy a fluffy story every once in awhile ^_^ Lastly, while I don't mind any sort of pairing, I don't like the ones that are completely ridiculous. For instance, in Final Fantasy X, a Wakka/Kimahri pairing, or in Harry Potter, a Harry/Narcissa pairing. What are you talking about? Where was that, ever? While I appreciate off canon writing, it still needs to have some relation to the show/game/whatever, hence, FAN fiction. |
