Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a type of stickler for grammar. Don't get me wrong, even I make mistakes, but when it comes to somebody else's work, I usually notice that. I like to read through it at least once, to get myself acquainted with the story, then I'll go through it again to notice the mistakes. Usually, while I'm reading a piece, I'll make notices about what I do like and what I don't like. It'll take me at least a couple of days to return the piece to you with all my ideas, and perhaps just a day or two longer once the school year starts, but I promise, once I take on a project, I will more than likely put it above my own. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good with grammar, and am the type, when first reading something, to point out the little tiny mistakes or flaws, and I don't notice the bigger ones until I read the piece again. I'm fine with cussing, but won't Beta a piece if every other word is a curse word. For example, if in the beginning of the story, you say the schedule of the main character (1st period: math, 2nd period: Science) but in later chapters, mess up the schedule (For first I went to english class as usual), then I will notice it and point that out to you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
If I like a character (LIke, like the character a lot) then I will fail to see any wrong in them until someone points it out to me. For example, (I'm almost kind of ashamed to admit this, but it's not like everyone else used to/ or currently does feel the same way) I was almost insanely obsessed with TWILIGHT, and could see no wrong in neither Bella or Edward, because Eddie was the vampire and Bella was the girl that the vampire loved. But then my mom pointed out to me that Bella is an annoying brat that takes the term "Damsel in Distress" to a whole new level; and I myself noticed that Eddie was a selfish sonofafish that really needed to get over his controlling ways. And thus, my love for TWILIGHT ended, and my barely contained passive aggressiveness towards it arose. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I really have no preferences, but I like action, mystery, drama, not that angst-y, but still a story that has some angst is always good.br /br /br /br / br /br / br / br /br /br / br / br /br / br / Also, just because I didn't check it off, doesn't mean I won't read stories about it, it just means I was too lazy to check everything I've ever read off. I've read Nicholas Sparks, and I like him, I've read Sarah Dessen, Deb Calletti (Or however you spell her name), I've read Gemma Doyle Trilogy, and Marked series. I've read A LOT. So just ask "Hey, have you read this book/series?" Chances are, I have. So ask, people, ask! And I've read A LOT of Meg Cabot! Okay, I'm done. Just remember to ask me. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Er... a lot of cussing? Also, I don't want to Beta read for someone that will just leave the story unfinished, so be sure that you know exactly where you're going with the story, unlike me. I usually just write a chapter on the spur of the moment, post it up, then look at it again later, to see if what I wrote made any sense at all. It usually works that way, haha. But I do know where I want to end, and I do know where I want to start. I usually get a little bored with the middle, because I have this whole story played out in my head, but if I typed out everything I thought, it would be the longest story, ever. So basically, just don't ditch the story, your readers, and me in the middle of the story. Please. |
