I have beta'd for people before, both on this site and on a Lord of the Rings fanfiction site, and I also edit and proof-read for my friends. I'm naturally good with spelling and grammar (i.e. I'm a grammar Nazi). My normal method is to read through the chapter once, then fix the grammar (or make a list of it if doing it through DocX), then tackle the actual content. When it comes to fandoms I've written for, I'm usually better it helping make the characters IC, but I can always tell if a character's OOC... even if I don't know how to fix it.

As mentioned, I'm excellent with spelling and grammar, and I have a large vocabulary so can assist with changing words for more interesting ones and helping you with description. When I get a story to beta, I will do it, and I will do it to the best of my ability even if it means staying up till midnight and writing you a three-page list of grammar owwies. Seriously. I enjoy giving feedback and I will try to make it as detailed as possible, reading your work thoroughly and picking out things which are good/could be improved. As far as characterization goes, I will happily - and probably will anyway regardless - help you keep people in character. I'm really picky about that sort of thing, to the extent that in my own writing I end up deleting whole paragraphs if they end up OOC. I will take the same approach with your work, though I will try to be less delete-obsessed.

I have limited computer time and there's only one in our house, so it may take a week or so for me to get back to you if you send me your work, but I'll try to make it top priority. There may also be some material in your work that I can't assist with because I simply don't have that knowledge to help. Dialogue is my bane - my own writing tends to be IC until the characters open their mouth - but I can spot when characters are speaking OOC, anyway.

I'm not particularly picky. I'm not particularly fond of really slushy romance, though.

I would prefer not to read graphic sex scenes - I can read them, but I probably won't be able to help you if you're struggling with it. But I have a couple of Sweeney Todd pairings I won't do: NO Toby/Lovett and NO Turpin/Sweeney. I don't like them and I don't read them - my natural hatred for it will bias me against them, and they make me feel icky DX
