I've been reading and writing fanfic for almost 20 years, as well as betareading for people almost as long so I have a lot of experience.

I can beta in a variety of ways depending on your needs. I'm happy to look over rough drafts to give commentary on how a story is working so far and help bounce ideas if you are stuck on plot. I'm also happy to do specific things like Britpicking for British shows/characters or checking for canon consistency if the source media is one I know very well. If you have any particular problem areas just let me know and I can pay extra attention to those elements of the writing.

The standard things I do as a beta when I go over a draft of your story would be the following - checking basic spelling, punctuation and grammar, story flow, ease of readability, characterization including dialogue sounding natural for the character, looking for plotholes or inconsistencies, highlighting any repetitive word/phrase usage and suggestions for alternative vocabulary. I tend to comment on anything questionable I spot and will ask for clarification if there's something that is unclear to me, though obviously if you don't agree with my suggestions that's fine. I try to be as thorough as possible but I am aiming for it to be constructive criticism. I will also write comments of what I enjoy in the fic if there is anything that stands out to me because I know it's important to note what is working too. :)

My expectations for writing I work with would generally be that you only send me a draft once the chapter has at least a finished first draft and you have already checked it over yourself to minimise corrections necessary. I can work with documents in most formats but .doc and google docs are easiest for me. My turnaround time will depend on how long the chapter is but would usually be from a few days to a week. Giving me forewarning of when a chapter is likely to be ready means I can better schedule things to get it back to you in good time.

I'm widely read in terms of fanfic so am familiar with the common tropes. I also love to analyse stories, figuring out their themes, plot beats and where they are likely to go next. As a consequence I'm very good at bouncing ideas for stories with people, I enjoy it a lot, so if you get stuck and need some suggestions for possible solutions to situations or ways you could go with a plot I can help there.

I'm also quite good at research so if you need some fact checking or canon details checking I'm good for that too.

I'm not the best at tenses, that's something I struggle with in my own writing, but I find it easier to see in other people's writing.

For grammar I can't usually explain why something is wrong with the correct terminology but I am still good at spotting when things do not look/read right.

Fluff and comedy are personally the hardest for me to write so I am probably not the best choice for if you need help in those areas.

I particularly enjoy AUs, canon divergent 'what if' stories and angst, but I'm happy to beta most things - character pieces, shippy stories, gen fic, team/case fics, oneshots or multichaptered. I will beta stories for most characters in the fandoms I offer, but in terms of shippy fics you are probably best to PM me to find out if I am interested in the ship in question. If I've written a pairing before then chances are the answer is yes and my fic profile also has details of what fandoms I am actively writing in that includes pairings I am currently enthusiastic about.

I am also very happy to betaread stories that include LGBTQIA characters, genderbent characters, disabled characters and OT3s/polyamory/non-monogamous relationships.

Any rating is fine with me - I have no problem with smut as long as it's not only smut (prefer to beta smut with feelings too), violence I am okay with so long as it's not gratuitous and I am fine with darkfic for the most part, though see my exceptions below.

Things I won't beta include - anything pedophilic, bestiality, gratuitous violence, PWPs / straight up smut, character bashing, cheating on partners, overly sappy stories.

I also won't beta fics that feature racism, sexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and other prejudices, unless it's relatively minor and/or plot/character relevant. If it's used to show how wrong it is or how characters experience prejudice that's fair enough but I do not want to beta anything that has it as a significant element and is uncritical of that behaviour.

Things I might or might not beta depending on characters involved and how it's written - incest, mpreg, Omegaverse, kinks, non-con, dub-con.
