Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have a fair grasp on grammar, and I detest redundance. I usually expect a piece that isn't too riddled with misspelled words and grammatical errors, and if a fic has irreversible, deathly mistakes, I won't hesitate to inform you. I would prefer to work on ironing out plots, and developing characters, being an entirely "English" person, and not so much "Arithmetic."Words like "affect," "effect," "then," "than," "persecute," "prosecute," I am rather confidant with, as well as coming up with words to replace "said." Same with words like "raise" and "rise," "lay" and "lie" from endless practice through persistent English classes. My experience with action hasn't been very pretty, but thoughts, descriptions, and characters are my strong suits. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a tendency to veer away from the cliche and flee at the sight of plotholes. I can think very logically when necessary. I really like to focus on characters, and vivid words in descriptions. I also like psychological/philosophical themes incorporated, butthat's just a personal passion. Although I understand the importance of grammar, I won't hesitate to use fragments when it sounds more fluid and couldn't care less about single-worded sentences and starting one with a preposition. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My grammar isn't terrible, but it isn't perfect either. I can still slip up occasionally when presented with past and present tenses. There are a lot of little things I could miss, such as subject-verb disagreements and occasionally, run-on sentences. My perspective can also be rather narrow when it comes to plots, OCs, shipping I'm not into, and such. As I've said, I've always been terrible with action, and I'm also a little inexperienced with romance. Otherwise, I think I'm quite adequate. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
My preferences for this are Family/Friendship/Hurt/Comfort, Drama/Angst, Tragedy, Humor, and Fantasy. Romance is fine, as long as the characters are not pushed into OOCness in order to like the other character. That becomes extremely irksome. Oneshots and shorter stories with some planned plot are ones I can give the most input for, although it is always fun when you don't know what's going to happen next. OCs ought to be kept to a minimum since I am not tolerant of them as main characters. Hm...that's all I've got to say. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I am not comfortable with lemon, yuri, or incest. I don't care whatever explanation, I won't do it. Violence is generally fine, but too much gore such as intestines being ripped out and eyes g - you know. Yaoi, I had been forced to semi-respect after a beautiful manga I read named Only the Ring Finger Knows so /that/, I can handle and actually somewhat enjoy. For the most part. Too much romance is iffy, as well as many shippings I feel would be dangerous to go into. M-Preg is something I generally avoid, as well as cutting and character suicide (unless there is ample reason, for the latter.)There are some characters I won't go near, at least, not as a main character - Sartorious, Pegasus, Adrian, Aelita, Terra, and Phobos. Slade should be in a relationship with no one, as well as Phobos, and Will should not be the main character of any fanfic, simply because she has the least personality. I think that's as close as I'll get to a rant today. |
