As someone who has an intense love of the english language, and as a great lover of a good story I feel I can be an excellent beta-reader. As a writer of both fan- and original fiction I am fairly knowledgable on how to make a story work cohesively. I have studied creative writing at university level. I am very much a perfectionist, and will tell you if I think your not good enough. I expect only the highest of standards, with very few exceptions.

I will expect you to justify your decisions to me. If I tell you I think something isn't working, I'll be very disappointed if you just nod and fix it. Discuss it with me. Talk, and if you agree with me when your done, then change it. Or don't, if you don't. It is your story, not mine, and only you know where it is going.

I'm generally very good at picking up spelling mistakes, as well as problems with syntax and lexis. I'm not afraid to tackle even the most unreadable english, and can quite easily make it reasonably legible. I could make it better than "reasonably" legible, but as I'm not the author I'd rather not have to rewrite the whole thing. I have enough trouble writing my own stories without having to write yours.

I'm pretty good with getting ideas. If your suffering writers block don't just sit and stare at the wall (like I do sometimes!), talk to me, use me for bouncing ideas off of, it's a technique that could benefit us both.

I sometimes overlook the simplest of mistakes, particularly grammatical. For this reason I'm likely to check each chapter several times before returning it, and then I'm still unlikely to be happily finished with it. I'm too much of a perfectionist.

I am absolutely appalling at foreign languages. If your story contains any language other than english, and your not 200% certain that it is correct you'd be best of finding a second beta reader to have a look at those parts. In some cases I know people who would be able to check it; I have friends who balance my weaknesses.

Being a bit of a perfectionist I can at times be unbelievably controlling. Feel free, at these times, to yell at me to shut up. Then we'll talk it through, even if I have to sit on my hands to stop myself from changing half the plot. Your story is not mine, and sometimes you should remind me of that.

I'd prefer to beta Harry Potter fics, my favourite being H/D slash, though I'm not fussy. I'll even beta other fandoms on the assumption that you won't expect me to pick up on mistakes relating to the canon.

I'm not sure that there is anything I wouldn't be willing to beta... I'm pretty unsquickable.
