Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi,br /br / So as a Beta reader I pick carefully at spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and just honest little mistakes (Th eend - The end). I usually like romance, action/adventure. I really like canons, so I am picky with facts too. Also, with Greek Mythology, if you throw in your own twists, I like those kinds of changed, because Greek mythology is so ambiguous. br / br / I really do not like random humour (BUNNIES POPPED OUT OF NOWHERE). In real life, it can be funny, depending on the person who pulls it off. But in stories, it is really not my type of thing. I also prefer canons. (inukik, HadesHera; I would not read). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Details. If you like details, and need help making your story more detailed, with images, smells, tastes etc., I can help.br /br / Contractions. I am big on contractions. Unless they are used in dialogue, I do not like contractions.br / br / Spelling, just honest tiny mistakes. (Please tell me if you use Canadian or US spelling, i go by Canadian, but I will cater to your preferences.) Sentence structure. Unlike spell checks, I do not have issues with fragmentation. If it is absolutely necessary, go ahead and fragment sentences. Just do not use run on sentences.br / br / Diction. enough said. My favourite websites are dictionary/thesaurus (dot) com. I love looking up new words, so there is a variety of words. I especially love changing adjectives. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can get really lazy, so sometimes I migth skim through a really long paragraph; which ties into me being rather impatient.br /br / I am also busy. School really gets to me, and I have my priorities set. No offense, but my education comes far before your story.br / br / If I do not like the plot, I probably will not give it my all. Also if I do not like the coupling, i probably will not give it my best efforts. (if it is a romance).br / br / I am no good with Horrors. I will read and edit them, but if you want me to add in details to make it scarier, haha, that sucks. I really cannot write scary.br / br / Grammar. English is not my second language, but slang is my primary language (Because really, who does not speak slang.). That being said, i can and probably will miss grammatical errors, because I read it in a teenage slang context.br / br / I cannot deal with curse words. If there is a curse word, I might change it.br / br / I am in highschool (but I'd graduating, yay!). Enough said. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love a good cannon. And I really love romances, but there has to be some action. I also like a lot of character involvement. If it revolves arounf one or two characters, without interactions or input of any other character, I'll probably get really bored. I love characters. br /br / I get bored easily, so I like changes in scenery - with the exception of oneshots - and action.br / br / Just because I am a girl, does not mean I hate fights. Actually, if you can write out a good fight scene, I will give my fullest effort to read. Really, I love fight scenes.br / br / Family fics. Enough said. (Sess/Inu, Hade/Zeus/Posei NOT INCEST) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I do not like Mary sues. I also do not like an extreme overload of OCs (Original characters). I love it when there are one two, but five, is the maximum number of OCs i will tolerate in a story. If there are eight OCs I just cannot keep up.br /br / AUs. If they're believable or creative AUs i like them (i.e Inuyasha/Greek gods in high school/modern world) but as soon as it hits weird (Inuyasha is an alien and Kagome is a princess on earth) then, I will not even read it. I AM NOT AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY but, i really do not like reading gay/yaoi, lesbian/yuri, and incest. I actually am against incest (brother/brother, sister/sister, father/daughter), with the exception of the Greek gods. Lets face it, they were incestual. Very incestual. The reason I do not like reading Yao/yuri/gay/lesbian fics, is because I am such a sucker for canon. |
