Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello :3 I'm Mavi, a german literature major. My native tongue is German, English is my second language, but I speak it just as fluently as a native speaker. I'd prefer to read fics from fandoms that I actually know so I can help you better, but will also look at others, depending on what you want me to look at. As a beta, I'll look at things like character development, character building in general and also relationship build up. I'll also look at the red thread of your story, look out for plotholes and make sure that everything fits together nicely. I can look at worldbuilding if that is important to you, of course that's only important if your world isn't pre-established, like our world or the Fairy Tail Universe. I can't really help you with grammar, but if there are any noticeable syntax errors, I can correct them. The whole process is upon your terms and conditions, it's your story and you should feel comfortable with what we're doing. You can make any requirements you like, you are in control at all times. My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at worldbuilding, I know how to plan out a world and it's poperties, as well as how to describe them properly. I'm good at describing things in general, I know how to build a scene and what makes a scene well rounded. My characters can be a little ooc sometimes, but I make sure that they are well-rounded with motivations, struggles and layers of their own. Overall, I'm good at making a story well-rounded, enticing and exciting. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not very good when it comes to grammar, neither in my first, nor second language. I put commas where I feel they belong, not where I know they should be. Nouns are always capitalized in German, so sometimes I'll capitalize things that shouldn't be or vice versa. My syntax is quite good, but mainly from experience, not because I learned it. In a similar matter, I have problems with the formalities of texts as well, like presenting dialogue. Mainly presenting dialogue, since dialogue in general is a big problem for me. I'm just not a very formal person, as such I have big problems with the theoretical parts of writing. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I like alternate Universes a whole lot. Putting your favourite characters in different worlds and scenarios is so much fun! Stories with a good twist are especially fun ;). The preferred fandoms are only the main ones, I can't think of much more right now, but I have many others. The mentioned fandoms/shows aren't exclusive, I'll do others, but I might not be as useful there. Fairy Tail is my favourite. I also have ship preferences, but again, not exclusive. (I'm not the biggest NaLu, Varchie or Ezria fan, but I will still read them for you and correct without prejudice) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't like stories that put major focus on pregnancy, children or family. I'm not a child person and dislike tropes that always end in children. I also have mild tokophobia (fear/dread related to pregnancy/childbirth), so I'm simply not the best person to help you with this kind of stuff. I'm not a big fan of angst. (The German word for fear btw.) I have anxiety related to necrophobia (fear of death/dead things) and inevitability, so I won't read anything that could trigger me. This includes Angst dependent on elaborate descriptions of death/grief or terminal illness; I'd like to avoid major character deaths in general, since these need to be elaborated upon. I will also not accept positive/romanticized portrayals of abusive relationships or mental illness. Abuse is not love. Depression is not beautiful. If I find anything in a fic to be morally wrong (ie, rape for the sake of rape, victimblaming, slutshaming, romanticized abuse as mentioned above etc..) I will give you the benefit of the doubt once. Everyone makes mistakes and I understand that. I will tell you what is wrong and give you a chance to fix/remove it. If you refuse to do so, or are unable to do so, I will not continue to beta your fics as I cannot support this kind of content. |
