As a BetaReader, I would most likely be pretty picky, but not snobbishly picky-I took English classes and most of my teachers were also very picky about grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and things like that. If I was asked to BetaRead, the first things I'd probably look for in a composition would be spelling, then grammar, and then sentence structure and order. Spelling and grammar is a big thing for me; I usually notice problems in spelling or grammar right away and have a strong urge to correct it. I've found myself saying to people about a composition "I changed it a little, but it's good now", and they will then say, "Um, what did you change about it?" I worry about little details even if no one else notices them. My expectations of anyone who would like a BetaReader are to let me know what they want me to work on-spelling, grammar, sentence structure, or just anything that I feel like correcting or pointing out. If you don't want me to work on something, and only focus on, say, grammar, then let me know and I will do that. I have a tendency to want to correct oddly-worded sentences but if I should just leave sentence structure and content alone then let me know.

I am crazy about spelling and grammar and making sure sentences, well, make sense. I sometimes have a very hard time getting through a sentence if something's wrong with it so I'll want to correct it right away. If a sentence is worded awkwardly then I'll want to fix it then too. I guess I'm a stickler for details. I also make sure to not have paragraphs that are too long, and I always am sure to indent and start a new paragraph when a new person starts talking. Recently I got a job as a copy editor so hopefully I will become a better editor so I can help people with their stories in a more effective way.

Although I get pretty picking about correcting things in compositions, I usually feel uncomfortable about mentioning something because I feel like I'm being too critical so I either will pass a mistake off as being not too serious, and won't mention a problem at all, or I won't want to be overly forward in saying what the problem is-I worry sometimes that I won't come across as being clear enough which would be a problem for whoever I Beta for. My anxiety about being too forward leads me to use sentences like, "If you want to change this, then here's what a problem was..." I don't know if that's being polite or too meek as an editor.

No, I am fine with any story. And I am now accepting romance genre stories to Beta.
