My beta-reading style is mechanics first, story later. I feel like if one's story is too riddled with grammatical errors, it really doesn't matter how good the underlying ideas are. My friends and I often discuss being jolted out of an otherwise good fanfic because of the author's inability to differentiate between "you're" and "your". That said, I do look for the hallmarks of an engaging story - good plot, consistent characterization, genuinely interesting characters, realistic dialogue, all that good stuff.

As a writer, one of the things that annoys me the most (besides looking at things I wrote before my junior year of high school) is those three or four elusive grammatical errors I find in a chapter after I upload it. I don't really want anyone else to experience that kind of frustration if they don't have to.

I'm a nitpick who reads too much, so if you're looking for everything in your story to be canon-compliant, I'm pretty sure I can help you out. I've been tutoring people in English for four years now, so I'm rather merciless in terms of proofreading a story.

As far as writing goes, I'm a very creative person. I pride myself on the fact that I often come up with the strangest ideas for stories. So if you hit that dreaded thing known as writers' block, perhaps I could suggest a thing or two to help you out.

As a beta reader, I feel as if I either come on too strong or not enough. What I mean by that is, if I'm not scathingly critical of something, I'm going to be overly nice and not tell you what's wrong with your fic.

I have several weaknesses as a writer. I get discouraged/distracted very easily, which manifests itself in my tendencies to update infrequently. Additionally, since I'm highly impatient, I tend to upload things almost as soon as I finish them. There are almost always one or two grammatical errors that I don't catch in my stories.

Give me something interesting. That's all I can say.

- Romantic fluffy schmoop makes me gag. It's a personal thing with me, no real fault of your own.

- I hate mpreg with the deadly loathing due to the resultant nosedive in characterization that tends to take place. Also, it's a major squick of mine.
