Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, there's not much to say about me. I read a lot, enough to understand the flow of a story and basic story-telling errors. I'm best with dialogue, description, similies and realism (though not necessarily on my own stories). I like to think I'm pretty good at grammer as well, but I'm not much of a stickler for it. I'm pretty nice about most things, but if your story is, well, terrible, I will be the one to tell you. I strongly believe in helping people improve their writing, not just fixing it for them. So if you expecct me to just revise the whole thing so you can post it, your outta luck. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at dialogue, setting and description, and generally helping stories flow well enough. I've been unofficially beta-reading for months now, and I'm usually good at keeping characters in character, or keeping the dialogue and setting as realistic as it can be (depending on what fandom it's for.) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm a procrastinator, so if you have a huge, one million word story, I will probably take one look and tuck it away in horror. Also, I can't say I'm the best at plot and charactor development. If you already have it in there, I can improve it, but if you have absolutely none, there's really little I can do for you. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Again, not very good with very, very long stories. If you want me to review an entire multi-chapter story at once, it'll be difficult for me. Also, I have no tolerance for any story in script form, a shameless Mary Sue, or severe grammical error. Basically, please make sure you at least have capitalization. Please. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Heavy sex scenes are fine, as long as they contribute to a greater plot then just for the hell of it. Slash as well, unless the couple is (in my opinion) just ridiculous (this includes Snape/Harry, ya'll.) I'm pretty open to everything, but, again, it needs to be readable, grammer wise. |
