Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I read mainly Harry Potter, Twilight and Pirates of the Caribbean fics, specialising in slash fics in all catagories. My main style of beta reading is to correct grammar, and charactarisation, as well as offering opinions on future plots/storylines where requested. I work well on a deadline, and am willing to offer extra time to developing any plot points that may/may not be included in the fic in future. While I write fics myself, I generally have issues with finishing them, but I am a loyal fanfic reader, and will always offer a critical opinion where it is due. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a wide vocabulary, and an active imagination, I am well able to make a scene longer/better etc by inserting imagery and detail. I am usually very good at including consistancy in characters throughout fics, although honestly, I dont believe this comes across in my fics on this site. I have a good eye for detail and I like to be able to include points in early chapters that become relevant later on. I am also very honest in my opinion of someones writing (their style, grammar etc) and although this may come accross as being rude, it is just an honest opinion form someone who knows their stuff and knows what they are talking about. I also tend to push for extra detail about people/places etc to develop the characters and to flesh out plot points. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be lazy and decide to let the computer do the majority of the work, and I do tend to be over-critical, and have been known to try and make a fic my own. However this is a problem on which I have been working, and I now try to stay critical of someones work. Even if I dont like where the plot is heading, I will not try to change it. As a beta my job is to correct the fic Im given, not to re-write it. I also have a slight tendency to ask too much of a writer, to push their limits and to test their ability as a writer, however I will always listen to complaints about it and take it on-board as well as backing off. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Harry Potter fics are my speciality, slash in particular. (HP/DM, HP/SS, RL/SB, SB/SS, HP/SB, etc) Buut I also enjoy many non-slash Potter fics (HP/HG, HP/GW, RW/HG, RW/LL, LL/NL etc)I also love Twilight, but only the canon pairings please. Pirates of the Caribbean, is good too, Willabeth and Sparrowbeth (but please no Will/Jack stuff ok?? Please??) I will correct any genre of fic, however I prefer romance and action fics. I dont mind working with AU or OC but prefer to use cannon creations, and will look for extra details of AU or OC creations. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I dont like to say I dont like to beta read a genre, but there are certain stories that I do not like, the easiest way to find out if I will beta a fic, is to ask. Although as I said above, I prefer not to stray outside the canon pairings in Twilight and I detest Will/Jack pairings in Pirates of the Caribbean. |
