Eragon is a rookie Monster Hunter with the small but tough Spine Guild. When the Varden caravan stops over, he is invited to join its quirky crew and leave Carvahall. Yet the Varden is embroiled far deeper in the fate of the land than he knows, and Eragon might just come to realise that fighting off packs of hungry Jaggi every winter will be the very least of his worries.
