Let's just say that shit got very real for me in September 2017.

I'm a woman. I live in Philadelphia. I'm a Bryn Mawr College graduate (Class of '99). My day job is in the corporate world, and I moonlight as a dance teacher and writer. I have a long-haired black cat named Miss Bettie Page. I love to love the bad boys, and will always root for the ladies who kick ass. I'm a textbook INTJ. Essentially, a huge nerd trapped in the body of a pin-up model.

What I Like to Read

I will read the f-ck out of almost any kind of fiction with accurate spelling, excellent grammar, a plausible plot, entertaining and in-character dialogue, and respect for the characters.

What I Like to Write

I write the mind!f-ckage. Seriously. I am a mad scientist when it comes to putting characters together in unconventional pairings. I like to break brains, shred hearts, and make people want to be in their bunks, barfing rainbows all over the bedding.

My Personal Guidelines For Being a Good Fan Fiction Writer

1. Know the characters inside and out, and treat them with respect. Don't make them do anything that is implausible / out-of-character. They should conduct themselves in fiction with the intelligence, mannerisms, and speech patterns with which their creator(s) endowed them. All displays of emotion should be in character. Don't write emo-pr0n.

2. Thoroughly research every aspect of the setting and plot. Don't “make something up” unless it's absolutely necessary or part of an alternate universe. Codicil: this rule is considered flexible if a piece is dated before canonical information was released by the source material.

3. “Play the wanting” and make sure the characters have sufficient foreplay to warrant anything from lusting after each other to exchanging bodily fluids. Sex is hot, but sex after a hell of a lot of meaningful eye contact, banter, and physical tension is even hotter.

4. Payoff elements of foreshadowing introduced in the piece.

5. Use dialogue as often as possible to move the action forward. Don't resort to describing the scene unless the physical activity effectively communicates what words will not, or silence is necessary between the characters. Don't write expository openers; whenever possible, start in media res and proceed from there.

6. Stick with a style, but don't be afraid to experiment every now and then.

7. Edit multiple times. Reading your work out loud is a great way to get a handle on its rhythm and flow.

8. For the love of God, spell-check and grammar-check everything. If in doubt, send it to me and I will beta the sh-t out of it.

9. Be gracious within the community. Acknowledge any and all people who contributed to the final product. Thank your reviewers. Celebrate and promote other authors who produce excellent work.

10. Stand by your work. Good writers don't give a f-ck; they are bold with what they produce. They know that no one gives a sh-t if it's it's their first time posting in a certain 'verse. They realize that no one has to be kind to them when reviewing their writing. They just put it out there and keep going.

P.S. I am a shameless "fluffy" public reviewer. This means I prefer to be public about what I love about a story, and private when I have a critique to give. Everyone needs a "hey, this could be better" every now and then, but I don't think an opinion like that on someone's hard work needs to be out in the open for everyone to see.
