Author has written 20 stories for StarTrek: The Original Series, Star Trek: 2009, and Star Trek: Discovery. I am one of those dinosaurs - I have been a Trek fan since that first September day in 1966. I can even remember sitting down and watching the first episode, interrupted by my father coming home from grocery shopping and looking to have what had happened so far explained to him. Having been a Trek Fan since that date, I was a Sarek and Amanda fan before there was a Sarek and Amanda. Whomever Spock’s parents were during the first season, they followed an archetype I had long been obsessed with. When the second season came and they actually had names and faces, I was in love with the idea of them for life. I attended my first con back in 1973 and became active in fandom as an illustrator in 1977. Nine years later, I would come up with an idea to increase charity sales for Mark Lenard and over the course of almost a decade until his death, we became, as he would say, “chums”. Upon Mark’s death I bowed out of conventions and for a time, active fandom. Having always considered myself an illustrator, I wrote only a few very short pieces until after the death of one of my best friends, Dusty Jones, a writer herself. Within a year or two of her death, I finally braved the waters and began to write. It continued for a few years until 2 moves, 2 illnesses, and a virtual job that made my home computer my workplace made the muse retreat. It now looks as if she may have hopefully come out of hiding. Personally, I’m divorced, with 1 son, 2 grandchildren, and a paranoid black cat, Sorsha, who is even more introverted than I am. I live just outside Philadelphia in a one bedroom apartment with a sunroom where I can look out to the world below as I type away. |
