Author has written 15 stories for Merlin. Hi fellow “Merlin” fans (okay, fanatics). I stumbled onto “Merlin” on Netflix in January 2013, by which time, though I didn’t know it, it was all over. I was enchanted by the concept, the stories and especially the characters. It captured my heart, and, four short months later, broke it. I rediscovered the Arthurian legends, and re-read T.H. White’s “The Once and Future King” (I even tucked a humorous New Yorker cartoon of armor-clad knights expressing justification for waging war into the NYPL paperback copy I had borrowed – at the page where the dying King Arthur expresses his belief, from Merlin’s teachings, that there can never be any justification for war. I wonder if it’s still there.) and Mary Stewart’s Merlin Trilogy and “The Wicked Day.” I was hooked. Again. Eventually, I came across fan fiction on the web and discovered that others had similar difficulties in ‘getting over’ the ending. My stories started in my own attempt to change history. So, now I write for “Merlin,” only for “Merlin.” I live in New York City, though when I zone out my friends tease that I have gone to dwell in “Nantasyland.” The sojourns are brief, as life intervenes, but are lots of fun nevertheless. Thanks to all of you who have read, followed, and especially took the time to review my first little story. (There are more to come.) And, of course, thanks to the BBC for creating such a magical series. Nan My stories will stay (mostly) within the canon established by the BBC series. Each is specifically grounded either within an episode or between episodes. My intent is to make sure that the characters act within the parameters of the canon, and are knowledgeable about the events that have transpired up to that point, including the events in stories I am telling. My stories also include other recurring characters who will participate in the events and help drive the narrative. I try to make each story stand alone, but there are references back to events that took place in earlier stories. I am posting them chronologically through the time-frame of the five seasons. I welcome all feedback and comments on my stories. Although I don’t know how to respond, I do appreciate your time and thoughts. N Okay, I am (more or less) trying to stay within canon, until I diverge – which I will do eventually. Having said that, I am also writing my own small attempts to fill a few plot holes, tie up some dangling story threads, and enhance the storylines. I’m also exploring Merlin’s magic by expanding his powers and capabilities to areas not explored in the series. Since I’m not limited by special effects capabilities or TV show budgets, I can range far and wide in my imagining of the magical universe. A final point: no slash is planned or intended – at least hopefully no more than that depicted on screen. Thanks to all those who read, comment, and follow (not to mention favorite)! N I’m starting to post what will be my last story in my series of interpolations into the canon of the “Merlin” series. My intention when I started was to change history. Well, those who read this will see how well I’ve done with that. My apologies and thanks to TS Eliot and his collection “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” For those who notice that I refer to Magical Mister Mistoffelees as ‘she,’ all I can say is: read the poem. This has been quite a journey for me into the world of fanfiction. Exhilarating. Scary. My thanks to those who came along for the ride to read my little stories and especially to those who took the time to comment. I’m already plotting out my next foray, inspired by one of my favorite stories in the Merthurverse. Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE N. |
