![]() Author has written 7 stories for Hobbit. Salutations. You've stumbled across the sister account of Nieve Wolfcaller over at AO3; click this here shiny link if you'd like to see my works as originally uploaded. Some background... It's 2013. By my own reckoning, it's been a good few years since I was in touch with the fanfiction community. And, granted, some of that was purposeful avoidance. I wanted to take a serious stab at original fiction, which meant steering myself away from fiction's training wheels. In time, I embraced world-building, conlanging, and nurturing characters of my own. Then university came along, plopping itself smack-dab in the middle of my time commitments. To my great surprise, it was in the midst of the mid-semester stresses of February 2013 that I found myself popping open a word processor, having been too busy to write for the past two months, to dash off a little silliness about Fili and Kili in Hobbiton. And then I remembered why I loved fanfiction so. So, here I am, no expectations, no deadlines, just a few mildly-rabid plot bunnies bouncing around my head. (And have you ever noticed how quickly those darned things multiply?) I'm here to catch a breather from real life, to revel in the fandoms I love so much; and, yes, maybe I'm here to fangirl a little. And to fix a few of those pesky, ah, shall we say, less-than-satisfactory denouements... Hm. I may be here a while. Or I may not. We'll see. What you won't find here... I'll admit it: yes, I have an old account kicking around on big ol' . There I have all my pre-high school ramblings, and like everyone else, I tend to cringe when I think of what my naive self wrote when I didn't know any better. It's still there, garnering reviews now and then. I'm not planning to take it down, but I'm not going to be updating or reposting any of that work, either. You're welcome to hunt for it if you'd like, but good luck - I'm starting from scratch in a new fandom this time, and I'm not dropping any clues. :) What you will find here... Hobbit 'fic. 99.5% of what you find below will be Hobbit 'fic. I am shameless: I love The Hobbit. I have a lot of headcanon concerning the Dwarves - as a race, as a deeply traditionalist culture, and in particular, in regards to the Durin family. Here you will find Fili and Kili are not (always) loveable idiots; that the burdens of princehood are great and many; and that, deep down, Thorin really does care for his sister-sons. Here you will find Dis as a strong character and an important presence in her family's lives. And here you will find Ori is sometimes a girl, because sometimes the lack of strong female characters in the Hobbit annoys me and surely there were better ways to solve that than by introducing certain Elves (...and who is this Tauriel you speak of?) More specifically, this is where you will find several "missing moment"-esque short stories that came about as a product of my own musings and from perusal of hobbit_kink on Livejournal. I am currently working on Not All who Wander are Lost, a 200-word drabble collection for 100_situations that conveys a lot of my personal headcanon concerning the Durin family. My focus is on the princes' upbringing, the differing expectations placed on them, and their experiences during the Quest. There's also a healthy side-helping of Broody Thorin, Mama Bear Dis, and an explanation for the absence of her (non-canonical) husband. Prince's Shadow is a longer work (nine chapters in the editing stage, unposted) chronicling Kili's adventures when he and Fili were much younger. Dwarvish politics are seen through a child's eyes as Dain Ironfoot comes to visit the exiles in Ered Luin. Expect lots of things Kili finds interesting (swordfights, grand adventures, dragons) as well as things he doesn't like so much (hair braids, rules, cousin "Thorny"). My current (and longest) endeavor is The Gathering Storm, which when neatened and posted will tackle the last few months of The Hobbit from Fili and Kili's perspective. As Thorin slips further into his madness, the princes realize how little they know of the world. Also, Bard and some original characters meddle in some stuff. (Have I mentioned that I remember BotFA a bit differently than most...?) Thanks for reading... -Skyborn Huntress, 21/10/13 |
