One hundred years have passed since the night Klaus fell and took Tyler and Bonnie with him. Caroline's changed since then. So has Damon. In fact, he's become a dad. Caroline returns home to help the young girl, who fears her father's old habits, and if it becomes necessary, stake Damon Salvatore.
