Description:

An Academy Award is an accolade awarded by the Rio Academy of Fan Fiction (RAFF) to reconize excellence of individuals in the writing industry, including both authors and stories. The "Jesse statuette" is offically named the Academy Award of Merit, and is symbolized by an ACII art banter. The formal ceremony at which the awards are presented will be broadcasted via a chat room, and is the first in the Rio FanFiction section.

The Jesses was first envisioned by holospartoi258, but never fully took off until BlitzerStar brought up the idea in a Rio FanFiction forum. The idea was a huge hit, as many people quickly volunteered to help and support in any way possible. The "Jesse" was later created as a imitation of the real-life "Oscar".

Awards:

Winners of a Jesse will recieve:

1. A unique ACII banner that can be posted on a user's profile. (May be changed)

2. Recognition on this profile, from esteemed authors, and your fellow peers.

Voting:

Much like the real Oscars, Jesse nominees will be chosen through a voting system. There will be two phases, or "voting rounds" that will ultimately decide the nominees and the winners.

This voting system is similar to how the real Oscars chooses their nominees and winners. Read below on how our modified system works.

ROUND 1: NOMINATION BALLOT

1. Each nominating ballot (a PM to "The Jesses Academy Awards") could vote for up to three people/stories per category.

2. The top five who accumulated the most votes will be considered "nominated for a Jesse" and move onto the next round. If you are nominated for a Jesse, you will recieve a PM saying this.

3. Story 3 - Author 3

ROUND 2: WINNER BALLOTS

1. In the second round, the winner ballots, individuals, once again, are only allowed one vote per category. They will vote for one nominee from a publishly posted list of the 5 nominees per category that were not eliminated in Round 2.

2. The final winner of each category will be decided from these votes, and will be announced at the ceremony, the story, and this profile.

Rules and Guidelines:

Before you send a vote, there are a few rules that must be followed. Votes that do not follow these rules will be returned back to the voter, or not counted.

1. To be qualified to vote, you MUST HAVE AN ACCOUNT that is OLDER THAN 3 MONTHS or if your account was created earlier than the story publish date (Feb. 4th).

2. On Nomination ballots, you cannot vote for more than three authors/stories per category, but you can vote for less.

3. On Winner ballots, you can only vote for one.

4. All ballots sent MUST BE READABLE. This means use good grammar and spell titles of stories and authors's names right! We won't be overly critical if you mispell, but as long as it is readable. Abbreviations are not allowed.

5. You CANNOT change your vote once you have sent it.

6. You CANNOT vote for yourself. Be generous and vote for someone else!

7. Do NOT spam this account with non-voting related topics. This is reserved for VOTING ONLY. Anyone who breaks this rule 3 times will be blocked and their votes will be disqualified.

How To Send A Vote:

Sending a vote is quite easy! Just follow these simple steps.

1. Go to "The Jesses Academy Awards" and hit "PM message".

2. At subject, type in the following...

If it is a Nomination Ballot, type in, "NB: (Category)"

If it is a Winner Ballot, type in, "WB: (Category)"

3. In the body, make a simple list of numbers (1, 2, 3) and type in the authors/stories you are voting for.
