OC= Original Character

OOC= Out of Character

Fandom= Fans of a particular 'category'

Canon= Coming from Christianity's "canon law." It means what is 'official' in the universe of the fan fiction.

Mary Sue= An overly idealised original character that lacks no flaws, and is the plague of fan fiction. For more details, type in "Mary Sue" in Wikipedia.

Lemon= "Hardcore" or graphic sex

Lime = "Softcore" or less-confronting sex

Yaoi = Stories featuring gay men, and usually includes lots of lemons.

Yuri = Same as above, but for lesbians

Shonen-ai= Features gay men, but usually doesn't have sex. At the most, there are limes.

Shojo-ai = The lesbian equivalent of the above

AU = Alternate Universe

A/N = Author's Note

R&R = Read & Review

Oneshot= A fan fiction that only lasts for one chapter

Fluff= Romantic stories that contain "heart-warming" and "cute" moments.

Het = Heterosexual

Slash = Homosexual

No Flames = The author's warning to potential reviewers. Flames are aggressive reviews that basically aims to insult the writer rather than offer constructive tips to improve their story. Somtimes, flames are helpful, but written in a hurtful manner.

Con-crit= Short for "constructive criticism."

Badfic= a fan fiction that is considered bad by many (e.g. My Immortal)

Jokefic= badfic written as a joke; for satirical purposes. Like paying out Mary Sues.

Self-insert = An original character that the author creates so they can "insert" themselves into the story. This is commonly done so that they can pair themselves up with their favourite characters.

PWP= Porn Without Plot, or "Plot, What Plot?"
