Author has written 6 stories for Ninja Turtles.

Hello! Thanks for stopping by to check out my fics. When you sink a lot of your 'spare time' into writing, it's nice to know that someone out there actually reads it. So I appreciate you being here. Really.

I'm an old school Ninja Turtles fan. Meaning, I grew up with the 80s cartoon, the Mirage comics, and of course, the defining TMNT event of my generation (I am dating myself now), the first live action movie. I've been a TMNT fan for a long time, and I wrote a number of stories several years ago before falling off the map as 'real life' took over. Lately, I've been bitten by the writing bug, so I'm back...

The root of my love for the Turtles is the idea of these fantastical, mutant creatures being real people - with real personalities, kick-ass martial arts abilities, and a strong family ethic - living in an otherwise normal world. To me, the Turtles are so cool because they are the only ones of their kind and have to live with this fact. So the Turtles universe I live in looks most like the Mirageverse/First Movie. Think of the first movie being a little more adult - M or R rated, with better fights, and more nuanced characterization.

I am, of course, grateful that the 2k3 series introduced the Turtles to a whole new generation (I haven't watched all the episodes, but I did like a lot of what I saw, and it's better overall, IMO, than the 80s series I devoured), but you will not find, in my writing, any of the following: Triceratons, Utrom Shredder, astral plane encounters, robot Foot ninjas, or dragon spirits. Don is not going to make a transdimensional portal out of a flashlight, duct tape and space heater. I do write fantasy and sci fi - just not in my TMNT world. Also, I will burn my own keyboard before I ever do over-wrought angst, OC Mary Sue romances, or the Turtles acting like extreme stereotypes of themselves.

I have a number of short stories, but my longer works are where it's at. Start with Terms of Allegiance, though it's sequel, The Clans, is in my opinion, better.

I will always aim for realism, accurate and balanced characterization, vivid martial arts action, and crackling plots. Let me know how I'm doing. I care a lot about the craft, and I welcome constructive comments on the writing like, "this section of dialogue was particularly effective," "you could have used a little more description here," or "the transition between these two paragraphs was jarring." Seriously. And if you just want to say, "Hey, I read your story and I liked it," well, that's part of what keeps me typing late at night. That, and the little demon turtle on my shoulder. I won't promise that I'll have new material all the time, because I do write other, non-fanfic stuff, plus I won't post something until it's done. But I've never been able to get the Turtles out of my system, so I'll probably be writing them for a while.

Alex

What They Are reviews
This story came to me as an idea in exploring April's perception of the Turtles and what must be some jarring contrasts that combine in their identity as teenagers, ninjas, and mutants. That, and I just really wanted to give Don some nice meaty action.
