I just talked a whole lot about things I like. There are things that I really dislike too as I've had a couple of negative experiences.

Namely people who like to offer their criticism on this site. Unless an author is having you beta their stories or they explicitly ask for criticism do not offer it. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. You come off as pompous and arrogant and really it's just an inconsiderate thing to do in my opinion. It hurts people's feelings and some rude people equate their personal tastes as right. I've had people tell me my characterization is wrong multiple times because the way I interpret a character is different from theirs. Art is not objective. You cannot measure it. One person's good could be another person's bad. There are stories here I shake my head at. But I stop reading them. I don't leave the authors overly critical reviews. I've had people list out the flaws in my stories and then they'll think it's okay by saying I have potential or whatnot to write good stuff. And many of these people review on anon so you can't defend yourself. Incredibly immature. I've been writing since I was 12 years old and I've taken about three creative writing classes and a contemporary literature class. I take it seriously. And unless you are my friend, a successful author, or a creative writing teacher and you've majored in literature do not offer your opinion like you're some kind of writing pro. It's an elitist prick thing to do. especially in an unprofessional setting. This is fanfiction.net. We're all here to have fun and sometimes we don't want to necessarily write amazing stuff. We just have neuroses we need to get down on paper. Not that I don't mind constructive criticism. To me a good critical review is telling me something you liked about my story and maybe like one or two things I can work on. Writing a five paragraph essay on all the things you disliked about my story and other people's stories is so hurtful. When you have all that negative stuff to say about a story, you shouldn't even be reading it, let alone tearing it up in a review. Anyway. Rant over.
