The great poet William Blake once sold many of his works to Thomas Butts, a friend of means who saw Blake as a man in need. One biographer would later describe Butts as a "dumb admirer of genius", who could understand Blake's artistic brilliance but not quite comprehend it. I find that to be an apt description for myself.
