While returning home after an expedition, there is a ship malfunction forcing Sarek and Amanda to evacuate their ship. Although they crash-landed on Vulcan, they find themselves deep in the mountains. Sarek must play doctor to an injured Amanda, and while waiting to be rescued they remember their first meeting. Chris has to find the 'red angel' and Una has to get the Enterprise space-worthy...

One deep space station pitstop, one seedy bar, one shady Orion, the reappearance of an old friend/enemy (entirely dependent on who you asked), a dozen officers on shore leave and a hidden treasure.
