The spirit of a WWII soldier comes to visit and talk with a man from his past.

Kirby wakes after an injury to find his comrades there...

Caje is having a family crisis...Kirby is trying to help but it isn't going as he planned...Sgt. Saunders is on edge, snapping at the men and Lt. Hanley is two days past due from a "solo mission." Little John, Billy and McCall aren't sure what's going on but hope things get back to normal soon...coz an unsmiling Cajun and grumpy Sarge just ain't right...it's been a long week.

How Caje/Paul went into the infantry and the origin of "Caddy". Paul's father (Denis) doesn't want him in the war & reacts badly when Paul enlists, along w/his friend Theo. Other characters: Pierre LeMay (Paul's uncle or "nonc" in Cajun French), Charlotte, Pierre's wife and Paul's aunt, Thierry (Theo's dad), Yvonne (Theo's mom) and Andre, (Paul's g/f). Lead-in to "After the Fall".

Like the shell game, Saunders has a hard time keeping track of his men.

Hanley is upset that first squad hadn't reported in and now is long overdue.

Many years after the war, a squad member visits the grave of another and remembers the events of the day when he died.

One of the stories that launched Prequel. A scavenger with an uncanny resemblance to Caje causes him trouble with the Germans as Caje tries to return with the film he and Pascow retrieved in "Prequel".

The war comes back to meet Caje in a New York furniture store, of all places
