![]() "Do you understand how dangerous the inner mind can be, when unleashed upon the world. The people of Fiorn, the Mara, did not understand this property themselves. They understood as much as we do about the properties of the Kilag, the minerals that we use to power our cities and strengthen our warriors. We have seen their towers, studies their ruins, and sat in wonder at the artwork that remains from that golden era of study and discovery. However...just like time itself...their world would pass them by and would fade into memory. We do not understand why they faded, or why such destruction seemed so prevalent. What we do understand is what they left us and what has remained. The Kilag still glows, and as it glows we must use them to gain power ourselves, for it must be the fate of the gods that we would rise. Kilag is our birthright, and the Mara's legacy has become our stepping stone to greatness." - an excerpt from Ascension of the Alaki The world of Fiorn is a world that thrives on advancement. The landscape itself reflects the changes made to it, with the arid desert at the northernmost and southernmost regions, to the tropical forests that wrap around the center of the planet. Lakes and rivers flow through the forests, the most prominent river being the man-made river Hugarin. Two main oceans surround the primary continent Lugar, the two oceans named Rios and Flian. Lugar itself has become the center of trade and international commerce between the two continents that form from branch off films of the north and south, the desert continents of Milar and Tsuya. Lugar is predominantly flat, and where there are no cities, it is open field and grass. Pockets of the land are marked by the ruins of the Mara people, explored by the archeologists and adventurers that seek to make their name by discovering more secrets of their predecessor civilization. Lugar is the predominant continent, and as such is the center of this world. Trade of items like iron, minerals, and even food has become a major advancement for the Alaki people, the predominant race of Fiorn. Lugar has a pocket of cities, the most famous of which being at the northernmost tip, the capital city of Rikirn. Rikirn holds around 70,000 citizens, two thirds of which are Alaki. With the Alaki holding dominant sway, the other races that inhabit the city are often looked upon as second class citizens, and are restricted from certain rights that the Alaki have free reign over. The most common restriction is of the most powerful objects in the world of Fiorn, Kilag minerals. Kilag minerals are multicolored gems, radiating with power from an unknown source. There are a few stories of what the power is, the common belief that it is power originating from the god of Destiny, Dovinic. Kilag minerals supply power to much of the world of Fiorn, being used as veritable generators, but there is another use for them that is a bit more shaded. Kilag minerals can be used to fuel power to whoever implants them under their skin. The minerals send their power through the blood-stream, releasing the inner energy within the user in the form of an external supply, typically as an energy burst or weapon. There is a strong downside to using these crystals in such a way, and the exploitation of the citizens has become one of the most dangerous aspects of the Alaki people. Kilag minerals used in such a way take their power from the deep inner workings of the mind. The inner mind can be a dangerous and dark place, and the power drawn from them can sometimes affect the user in mysterious ways. The most common-place distortion is the eventual disruption of the mind, reducing the crystal user to a raving feral beast that has no mind but for the death of those that disturb it. The effects are slow, and they are subtle to begin, only advancing with high use of the Kilag. Kilag users, known as Gyras, were originally the common soldiers that were used to attack warring nations until they were united under the banner of the Alaki people in Rikirn. As the city of Rikirn grew in size the need of Kilag moved to menial tasks, yet studies began to advance to find their power and potential. It was decided, by the late king Vaent Kavro, that the only way to beat the effects of the Kilag minerals and maintain their soldiers was to employ a draft strategy with the innocents. Children born during this age were taken and placed into a smaller city, miles away from Rikirn to undergo a scientific experimentation that would forever alter their lives. The city, Ordava, implanted the minerals beside the children's hearts, where it would remain and constantly pump the power through their bloodstream. The children would be the defenders of the realm...from any threat. A threat is coming, a threat has risen from the underbelly of Ordava. Some of the children have not returned to their Rikirn homes. For years the threat has been ignored by there have been whispers of darker experimentation. Of implanting more than one Kilag into their young bodies, of making them feral to test the strength and resolve. This is where the Gyras come into play, having been called to investigate and to uncover what has happened. They must explore the underbelly of the world, to find why their brethren have been missing, and what dark secrets lay hidden. However they carry the dark legacy beside their hearts...can they escape it themselves? Skeleton Name: Self Explanatory Age: Gyras ranged from age 6-15 so an appropriate age for your character is necessary. The children were returned a year after their capture so factor that in as well. Appearance: Would prefer description over images. Kilag crystals sometimes offer physical after effects, such as multicolored eyes, dark veins, disfigurement. Personality: Factor your age and the experimentations into this. Kilag abilities: Limit this due to the age and to the fact that...you need to limit yourself to make an actually good roleplaying experience. Percentage of Corruption: The higher percentage the less of a control they have on themselves. Brief Roleplaying post: 4/16/2014 #1 |
![]() Name: Kiru Xoras Age: 17 Appearance: A medium-length black haired teenager with hazy-red eyes and pale skin. Wears a black coat with one long zipper and a distinct lack of other features. Personality: Detached, Loner, Anarchic, Antipathic. Kilag abilities: Can induce insanity with a look of his eyes and manipulate wavelengths. His crystal also gives him extreme fighting abilities with superhuman stamina and speed. Percentage of Corruption: Over 50% Corruption and slowly rising. 4/16/2014 . Edited 4/16/2014 #2 |
![]() (Accepted. Well made, and interested to see just how far you go with a corrupted character of that intensity.) Name: Vyron Maros Age: 16 Appearance: Small light brown skinned boy with pale magenta eyes. He has buzz cut hair, though he used to have a deep brown hair color until it was cut. He wears earth tone clothing with an acid washed feel to them. With the corruption he is, his left hand has black veins running along them, encircling his wrist. Personality: Despite his age he still holds a strange child-like fascination with others. He likes conversation and being with people, and to some of the younger children he is the doting big brother, spoiling them with food and company. He does have a harsh side, mostly brought about when others threaten his 'family'. Kilag abilities: His Kilag allows him to manipulate metaphysical energy into physical energy, creating beams of energy or blades of it. This wears on his body though, and he can only do one thing at a time, meaning that if he creates a sword of energy he can only maintain that sword and not create anything else. Percentage of Corruption: 30% 4/16/2014 #3 |
![]() I'm new, but… Name: Melody Johnson Age: 15 Appearance: Melody has long, wavy black hair and violet-blue eyes due to alterations from the Kilag gem. Her skin is also very pale. Her hands are strong and oddly big, and her height is 5' 9". She is skinny and weak looking in general, but she is a fast runner. Personality: Melody is a serious and straight forward person. She never really smiles or laughs very much, but is very outspoken and not at the least bit "shy". She can be kind but generally doesn't care to pity anyone too much unless they actually need help. She is stubborn and only respects whom she thinks deserves a bit of respect, and is really honest all the way. She likes to be smart and learn new things, but can have a slightly annoying habit of being a little too curious. She likes to be helpful and protect other people, but she doesn't really resort to violence unless she has no chioce. Kilag Abilities: Melody has the power to bend light waves, so that it creates an illusion. It could be something like making the area darker or making it seem as though there were more of her. She also seems to be able to run at the speed of light as well, but she can only do it once every so often and it weakens her a lot. It requires a bit of knowledge to create her illusions, so Melody studies things about light waves to improve her powers. She cannot make a mistake or her illusion could cause disaster or ultimately fail. Percentage of Corruption: 40-50 percent, but Melody has managed to keep it bottled up for a while… Brief roleplaying post: Mary skipped across the gray pavement and looked up at the blue sky. The clouds were forming an array of endless dragons, flowers, birds, or perhaps an opened ketchup packet. She could not feel anything but pure joy until she came across a furry, brown and red thing in her neighbor's driveway. She immediately noticed that the red was blood, splattered on the cold, hard ground. 4/20/2014 #4 |
![]() Name: "Lucian" Age: 18? Appearance: A menacing looking hooded man of a wiry, muscular frame, "Lucian" wears a black long coat over a blue vest, a hood over his head, a single pauldron on his right shoulder that carries what looks like a skull carving. By all appearances, he has a handsome facial appearance, despite the darkness of his hood. He wears black slacks and boots, and carries a large backpack with him that carries numerous disguises and tools he uses in his "trade". He carries around a pair of crossbows of his own design that fire very quickly. The first fires an iron bolt, the second fires a jagged carved wood bolt. He's evidently spent a lot of time on these weapons. He seems to carry a dagger inside of a bundle at his waist. Personality: Secretive, manipulative, and sly, Lucian, or whatever his real name is, would be an enigma that does not share any of his secrets very easily. He seems to have a very noble goal in mind, though what this goal is is unclear, and hinges upon his word on being noble in the first place. He seems at first glance to be aligned with darker forces out there, but there are also numerous occasions when he assists Gyras who are pursuing a goal in his own little round about way. Views of him go from "he's a dangerous traitor who's out to do some sort of really bad thing" to "he might well be the one guy who knows what's going on." As much as he inconveniences and harasses the Gyras and their allies, it is also clear he has no love for many of the enemies of the current order either - though its also made clear that racism is one of the things he refuses to tolerate. He seems to believe he's testing or "improving" the Gyras through his persistent, bizarre actions. There are numerous blatant contradictions in his behaviours at numerous junctions, and whatever this means, its clear he knows SOMETHING. Kilag abilities: His abilities seem to be that he can "Real Fold" certain small things, making them pass through anything until a certain point, at which point they become physical again, displacing other things around themselves, resulting in a powerful, deep, deadly cut. He is most skilled using this ability with his combat knife. He also seems to have an uncanny ability to just disappear some times. Percentage of Corruption: He claims that its 70%. He certainly doesn't act like it. Brief Roleplaying post: In a small, out of the way alleyway, it looked like one of Rikirn's enemies was finally caught. Officer of the Rikirn Military, Alaki, and proud of it, Commander Dolvas looked at the singular figure of "Lucian". So this was the fearsome traitor everyone whispered about - in pursuit of him, several hired assailants never returned, in hunting him, even other Gyras were stumped by the order to his chaos. The sequence of events that all too often dredged up a vein of corruption within the society of Rikirn. And Dolvas was brought in precisely for this reason. There were some portions of society that some powerful Alaki wanted to remain secret. Lucian looked over the soldiers, and asked, "Four men...really---" Dolvas laughed loudly, interrupting whatever Lucian was about to say next, "Yes, I will admit, it is excessive for one cornered rogue. As soon as I give the order, your meandering ends. Have any last words, traitor?" "None I want to say to a person who thinks he can pronounce who's first class and who's second class. Why don't you get this started already? Or...are you shaking in your boots?" So said Lucian, looking to the utmost unconcerned by this development. Though said to someone that big, and with such command chops and a record behind him, Lucian smirked at the blatant, red fury on Dolvas' face. That smug little smirk on his face, visible even under the hood, Dolvas was ready to order this insignificant little bag of bones dead! The sedition in this whelp..."Kill him! Bring his head back with me!" So when Dolvas blinked immediately after issuing that order, he fully expected to see a very dead Lucian the next moment. When his eyes returned to normal, he saw all four of his guards, barely having moved forward, one crossbow bolt sticking out of each of their skulls, blood slowly leaking on to the floor. And most infuriating, Lucian was nowhere to be found. The only hint of his presence was a small note where he had been standing which read; I have other things to do, so I couldn't quite die. What I was going to say earlier was that four men was far from sufficient. You also picked men who could not fathom dirtying their uniforms by rolling, and their reflexes were poor besides. Train better men and come after me again, if you feel up for it. -L A howl of mad rage echoed through the alleyway. 4/20/2014 #5 |

![]() Name: Zara Callen Age: 16 Appearance: A sweet looking girl, with a slim frame and wavy blonde hair that reaches to her jaw. Her eyes are emerald green with flecks of blue, and her skin's lightly tanned. She wears a forest green tune over black leggings, and knee-high leather boots and a long grey/green cloak. She has a scar reaching from the right side of her mouth to her hairline. Personality: Zara is loyal to her friends, and trusts most people (unless it's obvious they're untrustworthy). When she comes across bad people or terrible things she pretends that everything is fine, in the hope it will be (which probably gets annoying for the victims). She is a bit of an optimist, seeing the bright side to everything, although when she isn't talking to someone she does become pessimistic. She also pretends she's just a dumb blonde when first meeting someone, when she really calculates what kind of person she should be around them. In short, she has really bad split-personality disorder and can't choose whether she's an optimist or a pessimist. Kilag abilities: Zara can control nature to a certain point. For example, she could heal a dead tree, or make a vine grab something or someone. She also can see what plants see in a three mile radius (when she chooses) which can be painful. (e.g if she looks to long she starts to get a headache or if someone 'hurts' the plant she'll get a nosebleed). Percentage of corruption: 20% Brief Roleplaying post: Zara looked around. Well she didn't really look around, a daisy about two miles north of her looked around. Nothing much except a bunch of men talking about their wives and sweethearts. She jolted as they all said 'may they never meet'. That was worrying. She shouldn't be thinking about that though - she should probably move on to the next shrub in a futile search that wouldn't get her anywhere. Or she could just move further into the woods to see if she could get something more in her sights. It wasn't like Gyras could just turn invisible (well some of them could) and there had been a spotting. Or that could've just been someone spotting her. She was now in a glad right in the middle yet she still hadn't spotted a single thing. She didn't even know where to start now, she'd covered (well, a lot of trees had covered) the whole forest. And now she was back where she started, with a splitting headache. Oh goodie, just a days work. But at least she now knew where not to look. But that wasn't very helpful if she didn't come back to double check. Honestly, she was seriously asking herself why she'd spent most of her free time on a wild goose chase, after things that could rip her into tiny pieces in the first place. Fine, since she was a Gyras she couldn't just let the more corrupted run wild. But it wasn't like anyone would miss her, there are others, an they probably have abilities that would be far more handy in combat. She was handy with a bow but it felt evil to take something's life. 2/15/2017 #9 |
