Chapter 1
Aoki Naess glared down her last math problem on her worksheet as it mocked her from the blank space where her answer was supposed to go. She would be the first to say that Physics was one of her strongest subjects, somewhere up on the list with English as well as Literature. However the specific question she was staring down had nothing to do with the lesson the teacher had finished teaching half an hour prior and she was upset at how stuck she was with it. There was no way she could ask the teacher to explain it either seeing as the balding man had disappeared from the classroom five minutes after he had finished his lesson for the day.
Sighing Aoki let her pencil fall onto her desk and leaned back slightly, allowing her lower spine some relief from her hunched position. Behind her she could hear the squeals and cheers of rabid fangirls who seemed to have no interest in finishing their homework. Aoki did her best to ignore them and their objects of affection as she released her shoulder length hair from its tight ponytail. Her scalp cried out in happiness as she idly rubbed the sore spots on her head. Her eyes glanced around the classroom dully, landing on the clock that said she had ten minutes before classes would be over for the day.
She allowed a sigh to break through her lips in relief that the day was almost over before she yanked her light brown hair back into a ponytail and turned her attention back to her worksheet.
It was a Wednesday which meant that after the bell rang she was free to go straight home to relax. Wednesday was the only day of the school week that her sister had off so that meant a good dinner and extra time spent hanging out with her sibling. Aoki looked forward to the day all week and now that it was upon her she wasn't about to let a dumb Physics question stop her from lazing about with her sister.
A loud screech next to her ear startled the brunette out of her mind and forced her to turn towards the obnoxious noise. Two identical boys were falling over each other in some odd display of incest and yaoi. Girls circled around them practically drooling over the two. Annoyed Aoki wished to herself that the trio of Hosts in her class would keep their little routines to themselves until they were in their club, but then again no one had ever actually listened to Aoki's wishes so she knew without a doubt it would be like this until graduation.
Caught up in her disgust Aoki nearly missed the small vibrations that were shaking her school bag. Deciding it best to ignore the twins behind her, as well as the screaming and fainting fangirls, she reached into her bag to grasp the blue piece of plastic that she called a cellphone.
'Been called in.
Be here til late.
Stay with Haruhi tonight.'
All of Aoki's hopes for the rest of the day were dashed with eleven simple words. Fighting back the desire to smash her head into her desk Aoki replied to her sister, barely containing her upset mood and annoyance.
The bell finally rang, releasing her from class but the excitement she once felt was dashed. Sighing she gathered up her things, tossing them into the blue messenger bag at her side. Behind her the screaming had been silenced and she hoped her fellow brunette had left with the rest of her classmates.
"Did you get Izumi's text?" The soft voice of Haruhi asked from behind Aoki, once more shattering her hopes.
Haruhi and Aoki had a shaky relationship. Aoki thought that Haruhi was a good person and was very likeable. She had admired her from the first time they met. That was until they were both accepted into Ouran and Aoki realized Haruhi was lying to the entire school for the sake of hanging out with a few attractive guys.
Aoki had learned to never trust people like Haruhi Fujioka.
"Yeah, sorry for the inconvenience Haruhi." Aoki finally responded, smiling politely.
"It's no problem. My dad loves it when you come over." Haruhi laughed.
Aoki felt her lips pull into a real grin at the thought of Ranka.
Haruhi had known Aoki and her sister Izumi for nearly two years, ever since Izumi had accepted a job as a bus girl at the same bar as Haurhi's father. Izumi was a friendly and cheerful girl and Ranka had taken an immediate liking to her, insisting that she come to visit on one of their days off. She had accepted the invitation and brought Aoki with her one sunny Saturday per Ranka's request. The two were fairly closed off and danced around topics like their lives depended on it. Haruhi and her father had grown used to it as the months went on, eventually leading to an understanding between the four of them. The Fujioka's wouldn't ask questions so long as the girls promised to come to them if they ran into trouble.
"Are planning on coming by the Host club?" Haruhi asked.
The long haired brunette actually did flinch at the thought of being around the loud and rambunctious host club for two hours.
"No, I don't think so." Aoki sighed.
Haruhi frowned at the light haired girl as she glanced at the floor, trying to find the words that wouldn't chase her off.
"I noticed that you forgot your lunch today," They both knew that Aoki didn't have any lunch to bring. "We're having some of those little sandwiches today in the Host club. Maybe you could come and grab some before you go out to the gazebo."
Aoki opened her mouth to agree but was nearly shoved into the wall as two gingers walked passed her to get to Haruhi. The brunette scowled at the twins as she once again righted herself, green eyes shooting daggers at their backs. Arms looped around Haruhi in a not-so-subtle attempt to pull her away from Aoki.
"Come on Haruhi,"
"Boss won't like it if we're late."
She rolled her eyes at the child-like possessiveness the two teens were broadcasting to everyone.
"Come on guys, stop." Haruhi huffed. "I told you to stop this stupid behavior."
Haruhi glared at her two friends as she pulled herself out of their grasp. It wasn't a secret the two didn't like Aoki in the slightest. When questioned by Haruhi they had just brushed her off with two identical shrugs and a mutter.
Aoki felt a small grin pick at the corner of her lips at the upset expressions the twins were wearing.
"I'll be fine." She finally answered, ignoring the daggers being directed at her from the twins.
She gave Haruhi a nod goodbye before turning and exiting out the double doors to her left. Behind her she could hear the twin gingers getting hit over the head and Haruhi scolding them.
