"You're back!" Nora cheered as she threw her arms around Pyrrha pulling the surprised Spartan into a bear hug as she stepped through the team dorm room door.
"Nora… Put Pyrrha down…" Ren insisted from across the room.
The Valkyrie looked down at her feet, noticing that she was indeed holding the Spartan aloft she slowly lowered the taller girl to the floor.
"Nice to see you to Nora." Pyrrha smiled back once her feet were planted firmly back on solid ground.
"Where have you been?" Nora asked enthusiastically.
"You're acting like you've not seen her in months." Ren commented flatly.
"But she and Jaune have been gone ages…" The Valkyrie whined.
"They've only been gone four hours." Ren replied, "Speaking of Jaune, where is he?"
"He was just with me…" Pyrrha's sentence trailed off when she turned to find the other boy missing.
Poking her head out the door she looked down the corridor, she spotted the Knight at the end of the hallway the top of his head only just visible through a pair of rabbit ears
The brunette Faunus waved a quick goodbye to the blonde boy as she disappeared from sight around the corner, a small skip in her step.
"How's Velvet?" Pyrrha asked as the Knight approached.
"She's fine." Jaune replied, "She's heading out tomorrow and was just saying bye."
"Oh… I didn't realise she was." Pyrrha replied as they entered their room, the Spartan had been in her own little world since getting off the shuttle.
"You found him!" Nora announced.
"Hi Nora." Jaune smiled.
"So where were you guys?" Ren asked cutting Nora off before she could launch into a tirade of her own questions.
"Down in Vale." The Spartan replied.
"Doing what?" Nora asked, "O no wait let me guess…"
"We had a…" Jaune began.
"No, no, no…" Nora interrupted as she covered his mouth with her hand. "Ice cream?"
"No… We had a…"
"Waffles?"
No… We were in town for…"
"Hang on, hang on I get three guesses that's how these things work." Nora insisted before going unusually silent obviously deep in thought.
Jaune sighed as Ren gave him a knowing smile, "Pancakes!" Nora shouted with confidence.
"Sorry but that's wrong as well." Jaune apologised although he was unsure why, the Valkyrie just looked so disappointed.
"We had a picnic in the park." Pyrrha explained giving the other redhead a smile.
"O the small one on the outskirts of town?" Nora asked perking up.
"Yeah it was," Jaune replied. "How did you know?"
"Ren and I go out there together sometimes. But not together, together. But that's not to say it's not a nice date spot." The Valkyrie explained sporadically a small blush tinting her cheeks.
"So you had a nice day?" Ren asked pulling the conversation back on track.
"Yeah it was great." Jaune replied enthusiastically.
"So you two are staying for the week?"
"Yeah." The Knight replied, "Are you guys not?"
"We'll be here for most of the week but we're going to be away for a few days." Ren explained looking over his shoulder at his childhood friend as she giggled like a girl half her age. There was something in the Martial Artist's voice that told them that this was something that would not turn into a team outing.
"I see…" Pyrrha nodded as she winked at Nora who blushed again only more deeply this time.
The engine died as Tanith bought her father's bike to a stop in a hidden layby at the side of the road, "We'll wait for my brother here." She said as she took off her helmet.
Blake nodded a silent reply as she removed her own helmet, thankful of the instant freedom from the confines of the uncomfortable casing. Her ears flicked happily beneath her bow but came to an abrupt halt as she felt the Mercenaries eyes boring into the back of her head.
The Faunus rounded indignantly on the older girl, if Tanith had noticed her aggressive stance she didn't react but just stood staring impassively back at her. "How did you find your first ride?" She asked amicably.
"Umm… Well…" Blake was unsure what to say, she had expected another confrontation with Kai's sister.
"It is exhilarating isn't it?"
Blake nodded in reply, 'What is she up to?' She asked herself, 'Her mood swings around like crazy!'
"I've never seen Kai mobbed by journalists before, does it normally happen?"
"Out here it happens a lot…" Tanith sighed, "Back in Vytal there are more restrictions on the media and they're a lot tighter in Vale."
"Why's that?" Blake asked with genuine curiosity.
"We couldn't have our greatest hope for survival against the Grimm getting distracted from their studies now could we?" A slightly mocking tone had entered the woman's voice.
"What about here in Mistral?"
"O well here people just don't give a crap. They just want to know everything about their favourite celebrities. Pyrrha and my brother started going out after his injury, well they may have just gone and kicked a hornet's nest for the trouble it caused them." Tanith replied.
"Why's that?"
"Seriously? You're kidding right?" The Mercenary laughed, "Two top level fighters famous for their fierce rivalry were suddenly in a relationship. The press had a field day, every journalist worth their salt ran the story of the warriors who found their love for eachother on the battlefield." Tanith snorted derisively at the memory.
"Was it bad for them?" Blake asked.
"Pyrrha had it the worst out of both of them; you've got to remember she's Mistral's 'Golden Girl' she had many suitors but suddenly she's in a relationship with her biggest rival, a boy most people thought she loathed. The people had questions and that meant she was unable to leave her house for weeks."
"What about Kai?"
"He got off lightly." Tanith laughed "Being hospitalised for all those months and then being off the competitive combat circuit for so long he faded into the background without a lot of hassle, faded into the background only mind you, as you've seen they haven't forgotten him."
"But they broke up." Blake interrupted, "Was that not reported."
"It was rumoured but never reported as there was no reputable source for the information."
"So a large section of the world's population still think they're together?" Blake asked angrily.
"God no!" Tanith replied.
"Then why all the secrecy and hiding?"
"According to Kai you are a very private person… Which I'm happy to respect but the journalists back there, well they would want to know everything about the girl Kai had chosen over their shining star…"
Tanith was cut off as her bike thundered past them, 'Why didn't he stop?' Blake asked herself.
A group of cars sped past hot on Kai's tail, "Crap!" Tanith yelled as she jumped back on the bike and started the engine her helmet discarded at the side of the road.
"What's going on?" Blake asked pulling on her helmet as she joined the Mercenary.
"He's being followed!" Tanith yelled over the noise from the engine, "My bike should be leaving those chumps in the dust but my idiot brother is being careful. I'd be overjoyed that he is treating my baby so well if I wasn't so pissed off that those idiots are chasing him."
The group of vehicles soon came into view as the older girl pushed the bike to its limits, pulling the bike into a tight turn she cut in front of the rear car. The back end of the bike fish-tailed violently as Tanith forced it back on itself and in front of the second car.
Lights flashed as they passed by the windows of several of the vehicles, for the second time that evening Blake was thankful of her helmet as it hid her face from those prying eyes. The panniers on the side of the bike that held their luggage threw up sparks as they scraped across the road when Tanith leant too deeply into a turn. The manoeuvre pulled off though as they were now in front of the lead car and catching Kai who was only just ahead of them.
Pulling up alongside the Ninja he acknowledged them with a quick nod before focusing back on the road. "That knuckle head won't go any faster on that bike." The Mercenary muttered to herself, grabbing Blake's hands off her waist she forced them onto the handlebars. "Keep her steady!" She shouted as she pulled herself up into a crouching position on the fuel tank.
"What are you doing?" Blake cried out as she gripped the handlebars so tight her knuckles were white. She soon got her answer as Tanith launched herself across the gap from her father's bike onto the back of her own. Yelling something inaudible at Kai as her hair whipped across her face, the Ninja nodded a response before relinquishing the bike to Tanith as he threw himself over the tarmac that rushed beneath him.
The bike wobbled violently as he landed causing Blake to yelp as she fought to control the roaring beast beneath her. Finding his balance on the bike Kai crouched down before slipping down in front of her and taking control of the bike.
Seemingly more at home on his father's bike Kai opened up the throttle and the bike responded with a jolt forward, Blake wrapped her arms around his waist securing herself in position as the two bikes left the flashbulbs of the journalist behind them.
Author's Note: So guys long time no see, how are you all? Yeah so the story has been on some sort of break, I don't know if you could tell... I'm actually writing two other stories at the moment (the 1st chapter for one of these is coming out soon) and re-writing some of the old chapters from this story, nothing major just improving my writing style, these might get a release... maybe...
