AN: A short oneshot that came to me an hour and a half after the New Year. Hope you guys find the humour in it that I did

Ruka's Audacity

"Hey Sakura, since I'm giving you my best friend can you give me yours?" was Ruka's bold request in the cafeteria. Of course this resulted with many jaws dropping and bulging eyes from the immediate vicinity of the animal lover. He even caught his own best friend unaware that Hyuuga Natsume nearly choked on his drink, the keyword being nearly, afterwards he just settled to watch the transpiring event amusedly.

"You want Hotaru to be your best friend, Ruka-pyon?" Mikan replied sadly. "But I'm her best friend! I'm sorry I can't give Hotaru to you!"

Some of the people present let out a snort of laughter, some coughed to hide their laughter while others giggled and chuckled behind their hands. Though the object of the conversation has not said anything since Ruka's initial statement, she simply looked on stoically as she was bargained for by the two. Nevertheless from the twinkle in her eyes it is very apparent that she is enjoying Mikan's denseness and Ruka's increasing frustration on the seemingly futile task of asking the best friend of his love interest for her approval.

"No! I don't want her to be my best friend! I already have Natsume as my best friend." replied Ruka

"But you said you're giving your best friend to me, so isn't Natsume my best friend now?"

"NO!" "HELL NO!" shouted Ruka and Natsume in unison, to which Mikan turned her attention to the latter. "You don't want to be my best friend, Natsume?" her questioning gaze was combined with teary eyes and wobbling lips.

"Baka, of course I don't want to be your best friend. Ah-ah, don't interupt me yet. I don't want to be your best friend because you already have Imai and I want to be your boyfriend." was Natsume's honest explanation to which he very nearly hit the ground when Mikan hugged him so suddenly and tightly.

"Okay!" she replied "But why did Ruka-pyon wants to give you to me as my best friend?"

"That's what I'm trying to explain to you earlier, Sakura. I want you to be happy with Natsume so will you be happy if I'm with Hotaru?" implored Ruka

"Oh! So that's what you meant! You should have just said so from the beginning!" said Mikan "I'm fine with it. I like Ruka-pyon and I know you'll be good to Hotaru."

"Thank you Sakura." he said smiling gratefully.

"Who said I agree?" was Hotaru's first words throughout the whole conversation.

"Wha-! But Hotaru you said last night that I just have to make Sakura agree with it and we'll start dating!" Ruka looked as though he was about to rip his hair out from the sheer frustration of it all.

"I know I did. I wanted to see if you have the guts to do it. Apparently you do and props to you since you did it at a very public place."

"So we're dating now?" he wanted a verbal confirmation of whether his marital status will be change from single to in a relationship.

"Yes, especially since I captured some great facial expression from you on film." Hotaru smirked and swished a photo in her hand with Ruka undoubtedly in it.

"GODDAMNIT, IMAI! STOP TAKING MY PICTURES!"

"But that's one of the things you love about me."

To which Nogi Ruka has no reply whatsoever, seeing this everyone let out the laughter that has been building up since Ruka's very bold statement.
