Four's POV
Annoyance had coursed through me while Five had been speaking, but it quickly switched to concern when I heard a deep baritone voice yelling for some girl.
I open the door swiftly and I'm met with another teenager. He was tall with dark hair and green eyes that seemed to glow. I heard Five curse under her breath. She zooms past me and squeezes her small frame in front of me, acting as a barrier between the stranger and me.
"Jason? What are you doing here?" Five stutters out, she sounds nervous.
"I just wanted to check up on how you were doing, Gracie."
Gracie?
The stranger sounded really concerned and suddenly everything became clear. This was the man that helped Five out in the woods.
An indescribable emotion flooded me knowing this was who had saved her.
"So Gracie, why don't you invite your guest inside?" I say gruffly by her ear.
Her back goes ramrod straight and I see a tremor go through her back.
"John, aren't we all a bit busy at the moment?" She spits, swiveling up to look at me.
"I can come back another time, I wouldn't want to impinge." Jason mutters awkwardly.
"Gracie, you silly goose, we always have time for guests. I'd love to meet your friend." I announce with a sickly sweet tone.
"If you insist." She muttered, sounding renounced.
She softly pushed the door further open and treaded aside. She discreetly elbowed me hard in my stomach and stepped harshly on my foot.
At this point, I could only smirk. Let the fun begin.
Five's POV
The sparkling, mischievous look that took over Four's crystal eyes terrified me. I groveled as the Garde treated him with the utmost friendliness. Marina had gone off to gather all the Garde and I was left to deal with my swimming thoughts.
Is Jason talking to Four really the worst thing in the world? Hell yeah!
The Garde slowly gathered in the living room; at this point, Nine looked a little bit more subdued.
Even though there was a lot of empty space in the living room, I plopped down unceremoniously next to Jason. I was ridiculously nervous and I'm pretty sure Jason felt it because he reassuringly wrapped his arm around me. I quickly snuggled into his side, his warmth lulling me to a calmer state.
Four quickly made himself the host and started grilling Jason; not before sending us a nasty glare beforehand.
"So tell me, how you met Gracie? Because she has never mentioned you." Four snarls, feigning interest.
I see Nine, in the corner of my eye, look at Four strangely. His nose scrunched up as if he had smelled something unpleasant. He catches his eye and I can almost see the gears turning when they speak to each other telepathically, as they usually do. Synchronized, they turn to look at me. Four turned flustered and Nine looked so smug, it worried me.
They were so busy in their exchange and I was so busy observing them that we completely missed what Jason said.
"Sorry, can you repeat that? I have this killer headache that won't leave my mind." John finishes with a pointed look at Nine.
"We met in middle school because we were neighbors. We were best friends and I even had this huge crush on Grace." Jason adds a chuckle to his statement.
My eyes widened as I looked up at Jason.
"Really? I had no idea." I don't even try and hide my surprise.
I had always crushed on him and had no idea it was reciprocated. My cheeks warmed a bit as Jason cast his bright eyes on me and nodded.
I was rendered speechless and then, Four cleared his throat loudly. I trained my eyes on him and he looked beyond mad.
"How cute. Are you going to be joining us for lunch?" John pins on the friendly question after his sarcastic dig.
Please say no!
"If it's no hassle…" Jason responds, sounding really unsure.
Mariana beams at him and oozes friendliness when she says, "I'll just set an extra place at the table, and it won't be an issue!"
I catch Four's eye and motion over to our room upstairs. His eyes narrow, but he nods reluctantly.
"We'll be right down. Start lunch without us." I say quickly as I rush up the stairs.
The second I hear the door click shut, I whirl around and get ready to rip Four a new one.
"Why are you being such an asshole? I know you are mad at me, but there is no need to lash out at my friend." I struggle to keep my voice level when all I wanted to do was yell.
Four lets out a mirthless, empty laugh. "I am ever so sorry that I offended your little boyfriend, Gracie."
I cringe at the sound of my old name. I feel my eyes flicker various shades as I seethe.
"Cut the shit, John. You know he isn't my boyfriend and if he was, it would be none of your concern." I spit out. I usually didn't call Four John unless it was necessary, in my eyes, it didn't suit him.
For a second, he looks hurt at my venomous words and before he can respond, I probe on. " So, care to enlighten me on what you and Nine were talking about?"
His eyes widened and for the first time since I had arrived, I had the upper hand.
"None of your concern." He mimicked.
"You know what? I am done. Look, I already said I am sorry for hurting you. It was never –."
"YOU COULD NEVER HURT ME." Four bellowed at me.
I was taken aback at his tone and frankly, a bit scared. I took a step back and ignored the fact that he cut me off.
"Of course I couldn't, silly me. Four, talk to me when your ready to be my friend again." I said with a surprising amount of strength.
I kept my resilience going and pushed past him. I swiftly left a furious-looking Four behind and headed down to have a lunch I was dreading.
After roughly 6 hours, Jason finally left. The late lunch went a lot better than I expected. The Garde kept Jason so long because they kept asking so many questions, but he didn't seem to mind.
Anyways, we parted ways with a hug. As I headed to bed, I saw Four whisper some words to Jason. He looked rather menacing and Jason looked scared, which was hard thing to accomplish.
I would have bothered to ask Four when he came back upstairs, but I wasn't exactly ready to speak to him.
I grabbed an extra blanket from the cabinet and a pillow from the bed. I made myself a makeshift bed on the hardwood floors. As my head hit the fluffy pillow, I knocked out like a light.
Four's POV
As I finished threatening Jason about backing off from Five like an insecure prick, I groveled over the fact that I was jealous. I had completely lashed out and messed up really badly. Nine called me out on it while we had been in the living room and I was thoroughly embarrassed when he reminded me I reeked of jealousy.
I marched upstairs and into our room, when I see Five's small feet peek out beside the bed. I rush over, thinking she had passed out, just to see she had made a little bed on the uncomfortable floor. She looked so peaceful and beautiful, not a single worry creased her forehead.
If anybody should be sleeping on the floor, it should be.
With a sigh, I scooped up Five in my arms. I carefully tucked her in and set off to change into my pajamas. I slowly slid into bed next to her and switched off the lights with telekinesis.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, even though I knew she couldn't hear me.
I pecked her forehead and fell asleep thinking about the million ways I should apologize to the girl I had come to care about a lot more than I should.
A/N: Soooo Four and Five fought yikes! Again, I have major writer's block so if y'all can just bear with me. I'm going to need 3 reviews for the next chapter! Constructive criticism is always welcomed! Hope you enjoyed! Please Review, Follow and Favorite! Have a lovely day, Loricale!
