Chapter 34: Run

Link

I could only stare at Vaati in shock. He was king? Zelda was evil?

What the hell happened?

Panic began to rise in my chest. This was not good.

Vaati must have seen my face because he stepped forward and patted my shoulder gently. "Don't worry Link. Zelda always makes those threats but never follows through with them."

That did not calm me down at all.

Vaati motioned for me and Linkle to follow him. "Let's go get some lunch. The servants won't mind if we go in and grab a bite."

As I followed Vaati, my head felt like it was spinning. How did Vaati become king? Was that the reason why Zelda was evil? Or was her family never in charge of Hyrule?

If that was the case...

Where were Sheik and Young Link?

This was not good. Whose idea was it to change everything? This wasn't right...

Vaati opened the kitchen door and slipped through with Linkle following him. I stepped in behind Linkle and glanced around. No changes here.

Vaati handed me some pasta, along with a fork and spoon. "Here you go, Link."

I smiled widely. "Thank you!" I sat at the table and began to eat it. I looked up to see Linkle on the counter, digging into her own food, and Vaati was grabbing utensils.

"Just like old times," Vaati smiled.

Linkle nodded before her eyes widened. "Vaati, Link lost his memories."

Vaati twirled around mid bite, holding the fork in his mouth. Part of the pasta hung out of his mouth, and his eyes widened, looking rather comical. He swallowed and said, "Say what now?"

I gulped and began to sweat. "U-Um... Some sorceress named Anivar told me... that I was living a fake reality. She-"

The castle suddenly shook, causing Linkle and Vaati dropped both of their plates on the floor, shattering them.

"What's happening?" I asked worriedly.

"Zelda must be laying siege on the castle."

Linkle's eyes hardened. "My lord, we have to move."

Vaati nodded solemnly. "Lead the way, Linkle. Link, follow us."

Linkle jumped over the broken plates and out the kitchen. Vaati and I were at her heels, running past guards that were headed to the castle's front. We headed up the stairs and to a small room. Once inside, Linkle shut the door.

"Where to, milord?" Linkle asked.

"To the Hylia Chruch in ."

Linkle nodded as Vaati summoned a portal. As soon as it opened, we all jumped through.

We landed in a forest similar to the one I was found in, except the sun was setting. Stretching her arms, Linkle looked around. "Are you sure that we are in the right area?"

Vaati nodded. "Of course. We'll get some help from an old friend of mine. She can use her magic to help us stop Zelda."

"You've never mentioned her," Linkle muttered as she followed Vaati.

"I have."

I frowned at this. Who was Vaati referring to?

I didn't have much time to think it over, because we arrived in front of a temple. Statues of the goddesses guarded the entrance and the steps. The triforce hung above the door, gleaming in the night.

Vaati stepped forward and knocked on the door. After a few minutes, a young nun opened it. Or, I assumed it was a nun. She wore the dress of one, but her hair was not covered, allowing us to see that it was green, contrasting her red eyes. "Yes?"

"I am here to see your head priestess."

She nodded. "Right this way."

We followed her through the temple. As we passed, I couldn't help but stare at the stained glass windows. They depicted the goddesses in their glory building Hyrule. Each one was different, as if they were telling a story.

We eventually reached a small room. "The head priest and high priestess are here." With that, she bowed and left.

Vaati banged his fist on the door. "Hey, Al-"

The door opened, and Alicia de Nyx stood there.
