A/N: I usually only write in first person, so I'm not sure how I've been faring with my 3rd person writing. With that being said I also haven't written anything in ages, so I may overlap the points of view at times forgive me. Also I have a tendency to overuse commas, if anyone notices this, would y'all please point it out. Much appreciated.
I apologize for what I feel like an eternity between updates but I had finals(semester is finally over!) and I think my manager may be the devil incarnate...
Hogwarts Express (With Draco)
Draco felt his head was pounding as he came to. His throat felt dry and his right cheek burned as it rubbed against the rough surface it was on. His mind was still disoriented and for a moment he couldn't remember where he was or how he ended up on what he now saw was the carpeted floor of the Hogwarts Express. Trying to regain his senses he shook his head and tried to get up. As he attempted to get up panic set in as he realized that both his hands and feet were bound.
"Oh! You're awake! I thought that stunner I'd hit you with was too strong," Pansy said once she noticed Draco's struggle.
"Pansy! You insufferable woman, let me go!" Draco responded from behind clenched teeth, each of his words punctuated by a grunt as he struggled to free himself.
"Now now Draco, let's not be hasty. I've yet to have my fun with you," she answered, giggling as she knelt to face him.
"No matter what you do I will never be yours. You may as well release me now," Draco told her, trying to remain calm as his hands tried to loosen his bindings.
"Now you see that's where you're wrong Draco, you will be mine," she said, her tone taking on a sinister tone as she straightened herself and moved behind him.
"Are you daft woman? A mate is for life, no amount of convincing could ever make me want you."
"Your mother promised me the title of Mrs. Malfoy. She assured me it would be mine-," she stopped as Draco began yelling at her.
"My mother is as crazy as you are. She shouldn't have made ridiculous promises such as those. Now Pansy, see the truth that lies before you and release me!"
"You didn't let me finish Draky," she said leaning down to grab his jaw roughly, forcing him to face her, "I will get what I was promised. You see your darling mother gave me this spell should something like his happen. It's really old magic, and will make your mating instincts change to choose me."
She gave his jaw one last rough squeeze before stepping behind him and getting to work. At her words Draco began to struggle with new fervor, if he denied Harry it would kill him, literally. He didn't know what would incite his mother to help the witch before him, but he was not prepared to lose his true mate for the crazy woman above him. As he struggled he heard her conjure up something which she pressed to the small of his back where his shirt ended. The feel of the cold metal pressed against his back made him freeze, perhaps she truly intended to kill him all along.
"Hush now Draky, it's only a scissor," Pansy said noticing that Draco had stopped struggling.
"What the hell are you doing Pansy?! I didn't take you for a pervert as well as a maniac."
"I'd watch my tongue if I were you, who knows what else this scissor could cut."
"You don't scare me Pansy," Draco said through gritted teeth as the scissor made quick work of his shirt.
"Oh but I should, you don't know what I'm capable of, especially for the things I want," she said almost as if speaking to herself.
In that moment, when he truly began to fear for not only his life but also for Harry's, his veela instincts kicked in. With a soft hiss his talons came out from under his nails, helping him dig into the ropes around his wrists, Pansy none the wiser as she looked at a large old tome that he hadn't noticed before. He stopped his movements as he felt a cold liquid touch his back. He turned his head as far as it'd go to try and see what Pansy was doing, what he saw only made him try to intensify his example efforts.
Pansy held a vial of her own blood in one hand and a brush in another, as she started to carefully draw the runes onto Draco's pale skin. As she started to move up his back to where his hands were tied his skin started to burn, causing him to gasp as the pain hit him.
"What the hell are you doing to me Pansy?" He asked, still trying but ultimately failing to cut through his bonds.
"It's all part of the ritual. If you'd stop struggling this would all be over sooner, I don't want to have to start over," she said humming slightly as she leaned over to look into the old tome, double checking the runes.
"Never! I'll protect what's mine," Draco growled at her, feeling his magic start to crackle as his wings started started to push through his shoulder blades.
"Now, now Draco, I don't need your wings just yet," she said as she reached out to touch them, receiving a light electric shock when her skin made contact with his wings.
"Don't touch me!" Draco yelled, starting to struggle even more now that he knew his magic was stepping in to help him.
"Struggle all you want Draco. That rope is strengthened by my magic. Now, do stay still so I can continue drawing these runes on your pretty back and wings," Pansy said, setting about to do just as she said.
(With Harry, right after Draco left)
As soon as Draco left, Harry started to place every protection and locking charm he knew on his compartment, to allow Sirius to change back into his human form. Once he was satisfied that no one would be barging into his cabin unannounced Harry turned around to face Sirius giving him a slight nod to inform him it was ok to change back.
"Well cub, your mate did a fine job of explaining things to you. Do you have other questions? Like how exactly you're supposed to mate," Sirius said giving Harry an overly exaggerated wink.
"Sirius!" Harry squeaked, his face turning red.
At Harry's look of embarrassment Sirius gave a loud bark of laughter. His godson was still innocent in so many ways despite being burdened with the fate of the wizarding world. It was that innocence that he and Remus wanted to protect, to ensure Harry could get a happily ever after.
"Sirius," Harry started in a quiet voice, "what should I do?"
"Oh Harry, you do whatever you want to do. If you want to kill the ferret and die a squib Remus and I will stand by you. If you want to accept the boy as your mate and make him have your babies, well that's fine too. And if you don't want to decide right now and have us all twiddling our thumbs that's ok too, whatever makes you happy," Sirius said, pulling Harry in for a hug, seeing the look of insecurity on Harry's face.
"I couldn't kill him, any more than I could doom the entire wizarding world to live under Voldemort's rule."
"So?" Sirius asked gently.
"So I won't kill him, or myself, but I also don't know what to do yet. How long do I have to decide?"
"As long as you'd like. And if that Malfoy boy tries to touch you before you're ready I'll hex him into the dark ages," Sirius said with a dark chuckle.
"Sirius, you overprotective dog! You worry too much."
"What can I say? I take my job as your godfather very seriously."
"Thank you Sirius," Harry murmured, leaning against his godfather for comfort.
"Don't mention it. James and Lily would come back from the dead to kill me if I didn't protect you adequately," Sirius said, earning himself a small chuckle from Harry.
"Sirius?" Harry began, suddenly remembering something from earlier,"when Draco came here earlier he said he'd felt I was worried. What did he mean by that?"
"Because he's a veela too, and meant to protect you from harm he can feel whenever you're distressed."
"Can I do that too?"
"Yes, even more so than he can. You're his healer, the one meant to ground him. It'd be very bad for a warrior veela to lose control of their emotions."
"Oh," Harry said, a bit dumbfounded by the new information.
While they sat there in a comfortable silence Harry began to panic. From out of nowhere his fight or flight response kicked in as his body filled with adrenaline from the feelings of fear and anger that suddenly kicked in. His hands started to tremble, and glow a light blue color, scaring him even more.
"What's happening to me?"
"It's how healers react to their mate being in danger. What did you feel right before panicking?" Sirius asked gently, trying to calm Harry down.
"I felt fear, and anger. Is that what he's feeling? How do I make it stop?"
"We'll have to go find him."
"We can't go through the corridors like this. I'm glowing, and you're you."
"The glowing will stop once you find him and make sure he's safe, and I'll just change into Snuffles," Sirius said, as he grabbed Harry's arm and pulled him up.
Once he dropped all the wards on the compartment Sirius changed into his animagus form and barked at Harry till he followed him out into the corridor. Giving a look back at Harry he realized that he was in no shape to actually track his mate as veelas normally did. Giving a sharp bark, he followed what he knew to be Draco's scent to a compartment not far from theirs. The compartment was quiet but Harry started to whimper and the glow intensified as they neared it.
Harry P.O.V
As I moved closer to the seemingly innocent compartment the feelings intensified. They hit me like a ton of bricks and I thought I'd drown in them if I didn't move away. A bark from Sirius brought me back to the present, and made me remember why we were there to begin with. I pushed the feelings of drowning aside and went towards the door, my hand reaching out to yank at the handle. Before my hand could even touch the door I saw a tendril of the blue magic encasing my hands move towards it. Without warning my magic kicked in and opened the door, disabling any charms that the door may have had.
Once the door opened I froze, the wave of emotions not only intensified, but what I saw before me made me sick. Draco lay tied up on the ground, panting in pain while Pansy towered over him, a red covered brush in her hand. As I took in Draco's form I realized that he was covered in what looked like dried blood, which I could only hope was not his own. Pansy had the decency to look half ashamed when she realized she was caught, but she barely paid me any mind.
"So this is the little pouf trying to steal you from me? Who would have thought that the saviour was gay," she said, giving Draco a jab in the back, and me a dismissive look.
"Got off him you psycho!" I yelled at her moving to shove her aside.
I managed to punch her square in the jaw, causing her to drop the brush and a vial of what I thought must've been the blood being used.
In the confusion it seemed she didn't notice Sirius, because when she moved to punch me she looked surprised when she found her wrist between his teeth. She screamed so loud I was genuinely surprised the whole school hadn't come around to see what was happening. I wanted to hex her into the next century for ever daring to lay a finger on my mate, but I knew Sirius would ensure she was dealt with. I could feel Draco slipping into unconsciousness through our bond.
"Draco! Draco, what do I do?"
"H-Harry, just put your hands on my back," Draco managed to answer as I gingerly moved him onto my lap.
Doing as he said, I placed my still glowing hands onto his back, hoping that it would help. As soon as my hands touched his skin, my hands glowed even brighter, and I could feel Draco relaxing into my touch. Seeing his face no longer contorted in pain flooded my body with relief, and I felt myself start to cry. If I had lost him I would never have forgiven myself. Through the tears that leaked out of my eyes, I saw my hands glow an even brighter blue, and Draco start to shift in my lap.
"Don't move right now, I'm not really sure what I'm doing," I whispered at him, not trusting my voice at a higher level.
"I'm fine, really," he answered trying to get up again.
"I said don't move," I said as I gave him a light push to keep him on my lap, "Sirius said my hands would stop glowing when you're safe, they haven't so you aren't."
"Harry-" he started, although he stayed on my lap.
"Please let me do this. I need to know you're ok," I said, my voice cracking as more tears rolled down my face.
He didn't answer me, instead he shifted so he could wrap his arms around my waist, offering comfort. We sat there in silence for a good couple of minutes, my hands starting to dim gradually until they stopped completely. Even when the glowing stopped I didn't move my hands, instead I touched his back to ensure there were no scars, and felt his wings just to watch them move. I felt Draco shiver underneath me as I continued my ministrations, and quickly pulled my hands away.
"Are you cold?" I asked, my voice raspy from the crying.
"Not really. I just love the feeling of your hands on my skin and wings," he answered me, as he sat up.
"I'm sorry I didn't get here faster," I told him, looking down at my hands now resting in my lap.
"Don't. Please don't try to take the blame for this, this is entirely Pansy's fault," he said as he threw a glance at the unconscious Pansy.
"What was she doing to you?"
"My mother guaranteed I'd be her mate. So they took it upon themselves to ensure that through some very old, very powerful magic."
I shuddered as he told me that he'd almost become Pansy's mate. It caused my heart to ache painfully, at the thought of losing him to anything or anyone. He was mine, and I was certainly not going to allow a crazy girl like Pansy to take him from me. Looking between Sirius standing guard over Pansy, and Draco, who was still breathing deeply, I resolved to do everything I could to keep those close to me safe.
A/N: This chapter didn't quite end the way I wanted it to, but I also felt like I was dragging it along, anyways read and review, they make me happy :)
