That time of the year again...snowdown...Families reuniting, friends getting together for celebrations, cold days and even colder nights, loud noises, the sound of a hammer hitting on steel, sudden power shortages in the police station...
Wait...that's not normal is it?
"Fuck!"
Yeah..not normal.
A few months ago, after constant begging, Vi got her private room for her work with hextech machinery. Everybody on the station knew she was a natural with it, considering how much she can do with her gauntlets. And when we say "she can do", we're talking about damage. Buildings, cars, people's faces..you name it.
But on that thay in particular, the noise she was making was driving our sheriff mad.
"Bloody hell...she's at it again..."
Caitlyn stoped her paperwork and went to the basement of the station, to Vi's workplace.
"How much noise she can do?"
And that question was being answered with each step she took closer to the room.
"How can she be so loud?"
When she arrived, for a brief moment, the noises stoped. The thought of returning to her office, came to Caitlyn's mind.
"Thank the gogs she stoped..."
*THUD* *CRASH*
"FUCK!"
"Ok, that's it." the brunnete started hitting the door to Vi's workplace "Come on Vi! Open up!"
More noise.
"Vi...i'm not joking here..open up the door!"
Even more noises.
"VI! FOR THE LOVE OF..."
The door opened.
"Cupcake? Whatcha doin' here?", the pinkette asked.
"What am i doing here?! I came to stop whatever you're doing in there!"
"OOOOH! Sorry..i was a bit loud huh? No prob, Ma'am! I'll be more quiet from now on. So if you excuse me..."
Caitlyn was pissed. Like...really pissed. When Vi tried to close the door, the sheriff stoped it. And in that moment, the pinkette could feel a chill running down her spine. And she knew that feeling very well.
"Not. So. Fast." the brunette was very emphasized every word.
*Oh fuck...she's fuckin' mad!*
"Heh..hehe sorry, cupcake...i'll be more quiet..pinky promisse!"
"Not even with all your fingers you could promisse that..i'll see what you're doing in there myself, and you'll let me in. Am. I. Clear?"
Vi stuttered.
"T-there's no need to do t-that! Haha!"
"AM. I. CLEAR?"
The pinkette froze. And gave in.
"Y-yes ma'am..."
Caitlyn's mood changed instantly.
"Good! I knew you would understand, love."
And they went in.
"Fuck...i hate when she does that..."
"Hmmm? Did you say something, Vi?"
"No no no! Hehe, i didn't!"
*fuck...*
Hextech machinery was everywhere. From parts to her gauntlets, to armor pieces, gun parts, and even some devices Caitlyn couldn't even start to understand.
"Wow...you've been busy since the last time i visited here.
"Welp...ya know me...there's somethin' relaxing about hextech.."
"Why don't you work more on it and spare people's faces?"
"HA HA. Pretty funny, hatlady..."
The pieces on display were impressive. But one tiny box caught the sheriff's attention.
"What is this?"
When Vi saw what Caitlyn was reffering to, she panicked.
"OOKAY! The tour's over!"
"What? Oh come on Vi...what is this?"
"IT'S A SECRET!"
"Hmm...you know that i love secrets, right?"
"Y-Yeah! I know! And that's why y you can't see what is this!"
"You know...the second thing i love most? Your blushing face, love..."
That's when Vi noticed she was blushing heavily.
"FUCK...O-Okay, Cait, you gotta go..."
"What? Oh come on! I'm just teasing you, love.."
"I-I know you big dummy hatlady! Please, you gotta go now!"
Caitlyn had the freedom to push the buttons of her partner, but when her instincts acted up, she knew it was time to stop.
"Ok, ok...i'll go Vi..."
And the sheriff left the room, with a panicking pinkette.
Some time later, Caitlyn finished her paperwork. But one thing stood on her mind: Vi's behavior earlier.
*Hm...why she was so worked up about that box?...*
She started to think about what could it be...and started to wonder why that box was so different from the other parts and pieces in Vi's workplace. She only saw it for a brief moment, but she remembered some of its details: it was black for the most part, with some purple details on the top, with some gold letters engraved on it, but it was so small she couldn't make any sense of it.
*Hm...maybe she's upset...I should appologize to her...*
When she was grabing her belongings, her hextech phone rang. It was her partner.
"Perfect timing." - Caitlyn answered the phone.
"I was going to your workplace to talk to you Vi..about earlier."
"Yeah...but i'm not at the station anymore."
"What? Why? Where are you?"
"Meet me where we spent our last snowdown together in 30 minutes. You remember, dontcha?"
And the memories flooded Caitlyn's mind, causing a faint shade of red to paint her cheeks.
"Of course i do...i'll be there."
"Sweet! See ya there!"
The streets somehow were calmer than last year. It was around midnight when Caitlyn left the station to the place where she and Vi spent the last snowdown. She could remember the details when they were together...when they held hands, the silly talks on the way, the kiss they had...the confession...
Caitlyn couldn't help but to smile to herself. They were together for a while and their relationship wasn't a secret anymore. She could say one thing for certain: the pinkette turned her life upside down. Who would have thought that an ex-criminal could become one of the best officers in the police station and her best friend and lover? They had their arguments. Over silly and not so silly things. But as the lyrics of one song the sheriff listened the other day said:
"Some fights, of course. But that's so normal when you want someone, as i wanted you"
And the rest of the way was filled with the memories of their moments together. The sheriff couldn't stop smiling.
*Damn...i love her...*
When she came to herself, she was already at her destination. Vi was there, sitting on a small bench.
"Sorry for being late, love."
"Oh n-no no! 's okay...i've just got there too..hehe.."
An awkward silence filled the air around them. But Caitlyn was the first to break it.
"Hey...Vi...sorry about earlier..."
"Hm? 'Bout what?"
"About what happened in your workplace...the box..."
"OOOHH...yeah...hey...don't sweat it, cupcake..." she finished her sentence with her traditional grin, causing instant relief to the sheriff.
"Thank gogs..i thought you were mad at me, judging your behavior.."
And, the pinkette blushed.
"O-Oh...hehe...d-don't worry 'bout it...i-it's in the p-past!"
"So, what did want me here for?" The brunette asked.
"Oh...right...please...sit down..." the pinkette said with a serious tone.
"Ok..."
After a few seconds trying to collect her thoughts, the pinkette began.
"Hey...i've even tried to see some movies, books, and even asked some people on how to do this, but..fuck..."
"Do what, Vi? You lost me."
Vi pulled the tiny box from her pocket and gave it to the sheriff.
"It's...a...gift..."
"Oh...oh my...thanks, love. I didn't even got anything for you..."
"There's no need...j-just open it...p-please.
And the brunette obeyed. She didn't believe what her saw.
"V-vi...this...this..."
"I know what it's like...but hear me out..."
"You know you're damn important to me. I could never repay you for what you did for me. You're my best friend and the one if i can, i want to spend the rest of my life with. I've seen enough marriages going wrong and that's why this is not a "will you marry me" question."
A brief moment of silence filled the air.
"It's a "do you want to be my partner for the rest of our lives?" question."
Caitlyn was surprised. She couldn't hold back anymore. Tears began to stream down her cheeks.
"V-vi..."
"I know i suck, i now i'm foul mouthed and i don't have any manners, but if there's one thing i'm good at, is being your partner. I'd gladly give my life for ya, and i know you'd do the same for me. I want to be your partner for life. Through thick and thin, good and bad, Jinx and no-Jinx, even when i'm not strong enough to punch someone's face, i want to be there for you...so..."
She got one ring in particular: it was pink with a tiny gauntlet engraved on it, and then got her partner's hand and put the ring on it.
"Will you..be my partner?"
Tears fell freely now from the sheriff's eyes. She wasn't expecting that. If she was happy? Of course she was. But she never felt like that before.
"I'd be honoured if you're my partner. For life."
Vi couldn't help but to grin like a kid. She put the ring on her partner's finger.
"It's not a diamond or anythin'...i mean...it's like..a gauntlet...so you can look at it and remember me...wherever ya go...so...oh fuck...i suck at this..."
"Hahaha...it's lovely, Vi...Here..let me put yours.."
Vi's ring was purple-ish, with a tiny rifle engraved on it.
"Here...all done."
"Aw man...i got a ring...a fuckin ring...aw man...AW MAN!"
Vi couldn't feel any happier. She didn't have nothing. Now, she had everything she could've wanted.
"Oh, what's engraved on the box, Vi?"
"Oh...it's a part of a song."
Now that Caitlyn could see the box better, the lyrics of the song occupied the whole top part of the box.
"All because of you,
i believe in angels,
not the kind with wings,
no, not the king with halos,
the kind that bring you home,
when home becomes a strange place."
"D-don't look at it too much...it's freakin' embarassing..."
"Hey...you brought me home too, love..."
There wasn't too much left to say. And sometimes, it's for the best to not say anything else, and let the moment take care of itself, like they did, when they embraced each other, and kissed.
"Love ya, cupcake.."
"Love you, Vi..."
Sorry for the long time without chapters guys and girls. It may sound a little OOC the kind of relationship i gave to Caitlyn and Vi, but that's how i imagine them. It's my first fic after all, so please, feel free to comment. And i hope you liked the Rise Against reference! Peace!
