Epilogue

Ophelia's journal, undated entry

As weeks passed, and my wounds healed, I felt renewed. Yes, we were still at war, but a part of me had found solace. And I had found the solace in the company of the most unlikely person, the Ylissean prince. My life truly began when he found me in that field… I might be feeling overly sentimental, but it is truly something special to be loved by the person who you care for the most…

"Ophelia? Can I come in?" Lissa's voice chimed from outside my tent. I looked up from my desk, the quill hanging in my fingers. I glanced over at my cot; Chrom lounged there, flipping through a tactics book.

"Is she looking for you?" I asked. Chrom shrugged uninterestedly.

"Come on in Lissa." I called. Lissa entered my tent cautiously, and I immediately knew something was troubling her. She was all energy and happiness, all day, every day, so it was a bit of a shock to see her looking unsure and shy.

"What's wrong, Lissa?" I rose out of my chair. I had developed a somewhat sisterly relationship with the bubbly princess and I felt the need to protect her like she was family.

"I, uh.. Nothing! Nothing's wrong." Lissa stammered. Chrom had taken notice of his sister's change in demeanor and came to stand beside her.

"Are you sure?" Chrom investigated Lissa's face. She shrunk away, looking shamefaced.

"Um.. Actually. It's a good thing you two are here, so I can ask you both at once." Lissa admitted.

"What is it? I'll do whatever you need," I replied quickly, and with an elbow to Chrom's side, "So will he."

Lissa glanced down at her shoes for a long moment. Chrom and I glanced at each other, so many possible scenarios passing through our minds. Finally, Lissa looked up at us, tears in the corner of her eyes.

"Are you two engaged?"

Chrom and I were frozen for at least two minutes. We stared at Lissa, our jaws hanging open, eyes wide and unseeing. After the moment of silence, we both started talking in unison, not making much sense. We both took a breath and glanced back at each other.

"What?!" Chrom finally sputtered. Lissa stared back at him keeping her ground, with the iron will she was so known for.

"Lissa, what brought this on?" I asked. I locked eyes with Chrom for a moment, both of us equally unsure of how to handle this. Lissa looked back from one of us to the other, and a huge grin overtook her features.

"You two are in love! Oh I knew it!" Tears of what I hoped was joy, spilled down her rosy cheeks. She threw her arms around Chrom's neck. Chrom stumbled back and looked confusedly at me. Letting go of Chrom, Lissa turned to me and pulled me into a tight hug. I could not help smiling.

"Why haven't you told anyone?!" Lissa asked after recomposing herself.

"We are just waiting for the end of the war." Chrom explained.

"So I guess I shouldn't mention it…" Lissa twisted her toes into floor.

"We'd appreciate that Lissa." I smiled and ruffled her hair.

So we had been found out by the one girl I had least expected. I thought for sure ever-vigilant and Chrom-adoring Cordelia would be the first to discover our engagement. Of course, after we told Lissa, our engagement became something of a hot piece of gossip in hours. It was what I had expected, Lissa was far too excitable and talkative. Chrom and I had spent the next few days explaining ourselves to each of our friends who asked and, thankfully, receiving congratulations rather than negativity.
I'm not sure what was better, the confused looks of people who weren't sure what I meant to Chrom or the knowing winks and smiles that we now received from our comrades.

Despite that, Chrom's words from his proposal still ring true in my head:

Together, we shall build a peaceful world, just the two of us.
