Individia

"A diary was sent to Sakura Television?" L repeated.

"Yes, it appears to be written by the second Kira to the original, asking him to meet them," Near replied over their confidential line.

"Fax it to me," L said, not quite ordering, but not remaining passive either.

"It should already be on its way."

Sure enough, it had arrived in L's private mail. L looked over the writings and, shortly after, the call was ended.

Naomi Misora had been sitting on the brown sofa near the back wall of the room, reading a book calmly, when L literally leaped over the arm of the couch Naomi was sitting on, and landed right next to her. The woman stared in horror at L, who had definitely intruded upon her personal space bubble. She attempted to move away from him ever so slightly…

"The 22nd in Aoyama!" he exclaimed as if this explained the mysteries of the universe.

"Hunh?" was Naomi's clever retort.

L shoved a piece of computer paper into her face, startling her considerably. "The notebook! Do you not see?"

Naomi blocked out L's fragmented babbling and took a look at the printed writing herself. Sure enough, when her eyes read to the date of the 22nd, there were mentions of a notebook. "And why is this so important?" Naomi questioned, glancing up at the genius who looked emotionless as ever, but pride gleamed in his eyes.

"The notebook," he repeated, pointing at the line.

"Yes, I see it. Please expand on that."

L's enthusiasm faded slightly. "Light Yagami was writing on a piece of notebook paper, correct? At the bottom of this page it mentions showing a 'shinigami' to one another. It seems too obvious to be the real meeting place."

"I see. You think the real place is in Aoyama. On the 22nd." L nodded, eyes slightly wider than usual. "What exactly were you planning on doing? Stalking everyone who has a notebook?"

"Not exactly," L meandered around the word.

"It's my job!" Beyond exclaimed from the doorway.

"Are you sure we can trust him…?" Naomi asked L, looking skeptically at the jam loving ex-con.

"You can trust me, just this once. I am not about to let myself be shown up by a woman," Beyond assured.

"What about last time?" she snipped back, referring to the time she had shown him up in Los Angeles.

"A minor miscalculation," he replied in lofty tones. "It could never happen again."

"Uh huh."

Beyond Birthday casually strolled down a random street. As it stood, he was in no rush.

Half an hour ago, he had gotten lost, and still hadn't exactly found his way, but surely he would get there soon.

Surely.

Eventually (the exact time is unknown, as Beyond was unwilling to share), Beyond came across the cafe he was to find. According to the internet, this certain cafe had an excellent view of the streets.

Once reaching the door, Beyond loitered for a couple of moments and people-watched. The red haze of names flew past on bikes, in cars, over joggers, runners, walkers. Names everywhere. And times.

For the most part, the numbers were large, but there were the few who's numbers decreased by seconds. B's hand twitched with the urge to kill them himself, rather than letting them succumb to their surely crueller fate.

But his pride had been injured by Misora's success, and he wasn't about to let her stay ahead of him in L-Kudos-Points.

"Umm... Excuse me...?"

BB was jolted back to reality as he heard a high, whiny, female voice. "Oh, sorry, did you need to get in?" he asked, slipping into his polite facade.

It was only then that Beyond realized he had been leaning against the front door of the cafe. It had been only pure luck that it took so long for his displacement.

"Oh, yes, I'm waiting for someone," the girl answered. Beyond's eyes trailed down and locked with the girl's, before he froze with shock.

She had no life span.

x

"And the person you're looking for is... Kira? Miss Amane."

Misa Amane's eyes shot up to the unknown man opening the door for her. Like her, he too had no life span. "Are you Kira?" she asked hesitantly. He wasn't bad looking, per se, but in more of an unorthodox way. One thing that was certain was that he was definitely different.

"Yes," Beyond replied, smiling darkly. Good. She's a stupid as I had hoped. I can probably play this situation out with the information she gives me, B thought to himself.

"You have the eyes now, right? Otherwise you wouldn't have known Misa's name!" She giggled.

"Yes. I thought I would be the only one to be able to pass judgement on the corrupt people, but I'm glad that one who understands me is a gorgeous girl such as you," Beyond hammed it up. In truth, he preferred someone more intelligent, but flattery gets you everywhere. "Do you have your notebook with you?" B asked, backing off slightly from the girl.

"Oh! You want to see Rem, right? Hang on; it's in Misa's bag..."

"Wait," B interrupted. "We should go someplace more covered. This place is probably crawling with undercover police, after your message." As part of the Kira investigation, he obviously knew how many, who, and when the police would arrive, but B was always the one to overreact his part.

Once hidden from passerbies in a darkened alley, Misa retrieved a book with a title scrawled along the top. B, was not focused on that, however, as he was more interested in the skeletal being who had appeared behind the seemingly innocent girl.

"This is your Shinigami, then," B said. He was sure most people would have been scared shitless by the being, but after the murders he committed, he could honestly say he had seen worse.

"Yes!" the girl chirped. "This is Misa's Shinigami, Rem!"

"It is a pleasure to meet you," B said. Instead of a traditional Japanese bow, B bent more to the fashion of an Englishman, right arm crossed in front of his stomach.

"Charmed," Rem said blankly, arms crossing in front of her torso, as she stared him down suspiciously.

"What about your Shinigami, Kira?" Misa was practically bouncing with excitement.

"Please do not call me Kira in public. You may call me Rue," Beyond corrected. While L had stolen the last name of his alias, he had yet to commandeer his first name. Misa nodded violently, a wide smile on her face. "I have my Note hidden, as I did not want to let it fall into the hands of the police." B was unsure if Shinigami could see each other, so he added, "I have my Shinigami guarding it right now."

The suspicion in Rem's eyes faded slightly, but she still remained in a defensive position.

"Oh, alright. Misa understands," the girl said, frowning in disappointment.

"Now, Misa. You've caused a great deal of havoc for the police, and that's good... But my ideals do not allow me to kill innocents. People can say what they want. As it is said in America, 'Freedom of Speech'. If you still wish to follow me, please instead help me kill the true criminals."

"Misa understands! Misa will help Rue in whatever way she can!" she cheered, gripping Beyond's hand tightly.

"Good. Now, here's my plan..."

x

"Kira- oops, Rue- is just like I imagined!" Misa squealed.

"Yes..." Rem said simply. "Misa I will return later. I am curious about 'Kira'."

"Oh, yeah! Misa is curious too!" Rem began to head in the direction Beyond had left, with only a curt nod at Misa.

I've honestly been meaning to update for the longest time -_- I haven't really been able to force myself since the only Death Note birthdays in April are Roger's and Rodd's. As much as I love them both... uh no.

Anyway, happy (seriously late) birthday, Watari (I meant to update two days ago, but I passed out before I could, and then I had a huge essay I had to do...

Thanks to the alerters, Clairdelaux, Se acerca el invierno (Very amusing penname!), lolz3X3, TheEternalLawliet, FreeWeirdGal, and thecrazymonkey.

Reviewers:

doctor anthony: Thanks! I was a bit worried about that chapter since it stuck to the book, and there wasn't a lot of new material. I'm very glad you liked it ^^

lolz3X3: Nah, it's probably me. I tend to write very sloppily and confusingly. If there's any specific parts that are confusing, I'd be glad to clarify :)

Olivia: Wow thank you so much~ I think that Naomi and B are interesting characters as well (I have read it several times as well, yet I still can't exactly pinpoint their personalities ^^;) and I'm very glad to be writing a story about them that many people enjoy! Haha, the purpose of this story is to keep alive characters I am fond of, so to kill them would be like killing a part of me (all over again). Again, thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy my writing.

HoshisamaValmor: It's quite alright! I would guess that life caught up with you? D: Not really poorly received, but I think a few people were disappointed with how quickly Light was caught. Oh, I'm really glad I'm not the only one who is amused by those! *Chuckles to self in darkness* That's what I think, definitely ^^ Naomi is a character integral to the plot XD

and RavenclaWriteRules~ You're really awesome. I hope you're reading this, because you are, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, you beautiful one, you ^u^

I blame any and all mistakes, and the craptastic chapter on my lack of sleep. *Yawns* Yep, I'm going to bed now. Morning, lovelies~!
