The ending is rushed, I know, but I needed to get something out of the way (I'm working on WAY too many things right now), so I sorta just threw this together. Also, I'm not quite sure I correctly portrayed what I was aiming for in the last bit.

Anyway, sorry this is late, thanks to everyone who reviewed, alerted, and/or favorited, and a huge thanks to everyone who stuck with this until the end.

Thanks for reading!

A dead silence (pun not intended) rang through the car as the trio headed back to Forks. Leah sat in the backseat, eyes flicking back and forth between Rosalie and Emmett, practically tasting the tension between the two vampires. She felt bad, knowing she had been a part of the reason their relationship was so fucked up. She found herself cursing her family heritage yet again.

"Are you sure Emmett's jeep will be okay?" Leah asked curiously, some part of her needing to break the silence.

"It'll be fine," Rosalie said stiffly, her tone putting an end to any other attempts at conversation.

Leah, forever defiant, shrugged and said, "It's your car. I mean, I'd hate to see it get stolen or something. Not that you Cullens can't afford a new one, but it's the principle of the thing." Rosalie huffed, but decided not to dignify Leah's comment with a response.

"We have friends," Emmett finally said, his golden eyes resting on Leah, worry flickering in them, silently asking if she were okay, "they'll take care of my jeep." She gave him a small smile, reassuring him that she was fine, and he returned it. He turned around, his eyes settling on the windshield, while Rosalie glared between the two, gripping the steering wheel tighter.

The moment they crossed the borderline into Forks, Leah became aware of a motorcycle following them. She knew Emmett and Rosalie heard it too. Jacob obviously making sure Leah made it back in one piece. And she felt a flash of annoyance jolt through her, wanting to punch her alpha in the head for doubting her ability to fight a vampire. She made a mental note to punch Jacob later.

Leah expected to go home, but Rosalie surprised (or maybe not exactly surprised) the werewolf by taking her back to the Cullen place. She parked her car in a large garage in the back, between a silver Volvo and some yellow Porsche, both stinking strongly vampire (though, Leah had gotten used to the smell thanks to Emmett, and her nose barely wrinkled anymore).

"Don't expect me to fight you to the death," Leah commented drily, following Emmett out of Rosalie's car.

"Like you could take me," Rosalie muttered darkly, heading out of the garage. Emmett and Leah shared a quick look before following her, Jacob falling into step behind the duo. The foursome headed into the house, Alice already waiting for them on the stairs.

"Oh thank God," she said getting to her feet. "When you two disappeared I thought something happened." She looked between her siblings before letting her eyes fall on Leah. "Are you okay?"

Leah's first reaction was to be a little snarky, but she reminded herself that, despite her size, Alice was a vicious vampire who did not have to be nice to the she-wolf that could potentially steal her brother. It wouldn't hurt Leah to be a little nice. "I'm fine, thanks," she stated with a small smile.

"Good." Alice returned the smile, but only briefly, before returning her attention to Rosalie. "Why did you come here?"

"Is what you told me true?" Rosalie demanded meeting her sister's golden eyes. "Is Emmett really disappearing more and more?"

Alice didn't reply for a moment, her eyes flicking between Leah and Emmett, but finally she met her sister's gaze again and nodded. "I can't see him most of the time…"

"That doesn't prove anything," Leah argued before she could stop herself. "He could still pick you." It hurt to say, but Leah knew she couldn't just stay silent. She ignored the look Emmett gave her, her eyes on Rosalie's fair face. "You two were together longer than I've been alive. Who am I to come between you two?"

"Leah…" Emmett started but she waved a hand, cutting him off.

"Look, I offered to stay away from Emmett for a while, before we…" she trailed off, wetting her lips. Determined to keep eye contact with Rosalie, Leah fought the urge to look away and continued, "So, if you two need me to go away…"

Rosalie held Leah's gaze for a long moment before letting her eyes settle on Emmett. She seemed to be searching for something, but finally Rosalie broke eye contact and sighed "I'm not going to stand in your way."

"What?" Leah and Emmett said together while Jacob and Alice stayed silent, watching everything silently. Neither seemed surprised by Rosalie's admission; something Leah didn't know how to interpret, so she decided to not pay either much attention right that second.

"As much as I want to rip your head off," Rosalie added glancing at Leah for a brief second. "I also want Emmett to be happy. And while it would be easier to kill you, Emmett would never forgive me. So, I'm…" she swallowed, looking as if she wanted to cry (and she probably would have been tearing up if her body could produce tears). "This is me letting him go."

"Rose…"

"No, Em, let me do this." Rosalie gave Emmett a sad smile, reaching out to take his hand. He took it, giving hers a squeeze, before releasing it and walking away. Emmett looked like he wanted to chase after her, but Alice shook her head.

"She needs a bit of time," she said softly. "You can look for her later."

Alice and Jacob eventually headed inside, leaving Emmett and Leah standing by the garage. Neither one met each other's gaze for a long moment, but finally Emmett looked up and said, "This wasn't how I expected things to go."

"Me either," Leah murmured trying to read Emmett's face. She offered him a small smile and said, "We should start over."

"What?" he gave her a curious look, one eyebrow raised. "Seriously?"

"What not? I feel like we should start over." She held out her hand and said, "I'm Leah Clearwater."

He gave her a skeptical look, but finally shrugged and took her hand, shaking it. "Hello Leah Clearwater. I'm Emmett Cullen."

"Would you like to take a walk with me?" she asked softly, still gripping his hand.

"I would love to take a walk with you." The two started walking slowly towards the forest, their hands gently swinging back and forth between them, and Emmett said, "Did I ever tell you about this friend of mine? She looked a lot like you."

"Oh really?" Leah fought a smile, shaking her head. "Well, if you tell me about your friend. I'll tell you about mine. He looks a bit like you, but he has always been a bit too pale and cold for my taste."

"Oh, Leah Clearwater," Emmett started softly, "what am I going to do with you?" Leah just smiled, and the two silently continued walking.

Leah didn't expect them to become a couple at that moment. Rosalie had been a huge part of Emmett's life, they had been together for decades, and it'd take a while for Emmett to bounce back from that break up, but Leah vowed to be there for him each step of the way.

Rosalie still wanted to go back and rip Leah Clearwater's head off, but she refrained. Instead, she sat against the tree, watching the sun slowly set, remembering her life before she became a vampire. Sometimes she wondered what would have happened if Roy and his friends hadn't attacked her, if she had been able to get married and have kids. To have a normal life.

Emmett had been one of the few people to make her life seem normal. And even if she wasn't exactly saying goodbye to him, she would still miss him, but she knew she had done the right thing. It'd take time to actually convince herself, but she'd eventually get to a place where she'd feel at peace.

"Are you okay?" a quiet voice asked from just over her shoulder. Rosalie had smelled him earlier, but chose not to react.

Instead, she softly said, "When I was alive, I used to sit on my house's roof and watch the sunset, but after so many years of watching the same sunset, it becomes less beautiful."

"Um, I wouldn't know," he said sitting down next to her. "I haven't been around as long as you."

Rosalie glanced over at the boy, giving him a soft smile, and said, "Not many have."

"We haven't formally met. I'm Embry," the guy said quietly.

"Rosalie," she greeted after a pause, meeting his eyes, feeling something stirring in her stomach. A connection she didn't understand, but a part of her knew this is exactly what Emmett felt around Leah. She saw the surprise on Embry's face and knew he had felt it too. "It's very nice to meet you."
