Tinkerbell: Curse of the Duskmoth
(I do not own Tinkerbell or any of the Disney Fairies. Enjoy!)
Chapter 22
"Vidia? Vidia!" Vidia winced as a loud voice penetrated her mind. "Vidia, wake up!" Her eyes fluttered open, but everything looked blurry. She groaned. Slowly her eyes focused on a face, framed by golden hair.
"Tink?" Vidia shook her head to clear the cobwebs from her mind and glanced up. Tinkerbell smiled at her, her green eyes glinting.
"You're awake!" Tinkerbell exclaimed, floating backwards as her friends gathered around. Vidia glances from Silvermist's pinkish face to Rosetta's red hair to Fawn's brown eyes and realized something. She glanced down at her own hands.
"Guys, we're normal" Everyone just smiled back at her.
"You can say that again" A deep voice made Vidia look around the ward. She gasped. Standing in the doorway was a tall, muscular sparrow-man with dark skin and close-cropped black hair. But there was something very familiar about him.
"Erikel?" Vidia's eyes widened. Erikel smiled and nodded. "But how? I thought you said..."
"Your guess is as good as mine" Erikel shrugged. "I thought that after drinking that serum for so long, I'd never be normal again"
"The Duskmoth has powers that we can only imagine" The Seer's voice fluttered through the air. Erikel moved away from the door to find the Seer standing there with Queen Clarion just behind him.
"Queen Clarion" Vidia tried to get up and was hit with a sudden wave of dizziness that made her sink back down onto the leaf bed.
"It's okay Vidia." Clarion soothed, gliding up to Vidia's bed. "You've been sleeping all day, you'll probably feel woozy for a while"
"All day?" Vidia repeated. Clarion nodded. "What happened?"
"I was hoping you could tell me" Clarion replied, looking over the assembled faces. "I've already heard Kelsier's story" She glanced at the sparrow-man, who nodded. "But he could only tell me so much, and now I would like to hear it from you all." She turned back to Vidia, looking expectant.
All the other fairies turned to look at Vidia and Tinkerbell, who glanced at each other. Finally, Vidia took a deep breath and began to talk. She told Clarion everything, from when she first saw the Duskmoth watching them during the Dusk Festival, to her first encounter, to becoming a sprite. With Tinkerbell's help, she told Clarion how Kelsier had sought to use the Duskmoth legend as a cover for seizing control of Pixie Hollow, and how many Guild members followed him out of fear. They told her how they had met Erikel and discovered the Duskmoth's lair, and the eggs within it. They told her what Erikel told them about the true history of the Duskmoth and how its current brood was in danger, how they had convinced the others to become sprites to fight the Guild.
When they had finished, Clarion took a deep breath and sighed, like she was releasing tension. "I had long wondered what had happened to Erikel. He is one of my closest friends" She admitted, turning to look at the sparrow man, who smiled and dipped his head. "And I had often wondered why the Duskmoth had continued to return to Pixie Hollow. I'm just glad it wasn't the monster we all assumed it was" She smiled. "Though, when I first saw all of you, lying around the pixie dust basin, I feared the worst".
"What do you mean?" Silvermist asked.
"Well, we were all gathering at the border when Guild members began appearing, fleeing from what they said was a Sprite army. Soon we saw Elisa and Kelsier flying through the trees yelling in fear, then a large squeaking 'cloud' moving through the forest. When the 'cloud' had passed, the ambassadors lead us all back to the tree and we saw Fairy Mary and Fairy Gary tied up by vines and all of you lying around the pixie dust basin, asleep." Clarion explained, a glint of worry in her eyes. "Erikel and the Seer woke up first, then one by one all of you woke up, except for you, Vidia. You slept all day."
"Hmm, I wonder if it was because your second transformation was different then our." Tinkerbell wondered aloud. "Remember, you didn't drink the serum the second time, the Duskmoth slashed you."
Vidia shrugged, but inside she felt a chill snake down her back and her shoulder throbbed where the Duskmoth had hit her.
"Queen Clarion" Silvermist's voice made everyone look up. "What will happen to Elisa and Kelsier?"
A frown appeared on Clarion's face. "I've already told the Guardian Guild members what he did. They've charged themselves with making sure he stays banished, though..." The frown curled up into a sly smile. "I don't think they will come back anytime soon after the scare you gave them." Everyone laughed at this.
An Hour Later
An hour later, Tinkerbell and Vidia were flying to Vidia's house.
"Well, that was quite the adventure, eh?" Tinkerbell prodded.
"It sure was" Vidia replied, smiling despite herself.
"So, I headed back to the Duskmoth's lair earlier today, and guess what I found." Tinkerbell said as they landed by Vidia's door.
"What?"
"Nothing" Tinkerbell revealed. "The pond, the eggs, the purple glow, it's gone, completely."
"Really?" Vidia sighed in disappointment, feeling her shoulder's sag. "Oh well. I guess the Duskmoth doesn't need to stay around anymore, now that its brood hatched."
"I wonder if we'll ever see it again" Tinkerbell wondered. As soon as she said that, something clicked inside Vidia. Purple light filled her vision and Tinkerbell and the tree vanished. Vidia saw the Duskmoth in front of her, flying through the cloud that was its offspring, then she glanced down and saw they were flying over a ruined, structure with black walls that was covered in stone statues, then her gaze shifted and she saw an enormous mountain getting closer and closer.
"Vidia!" Vidia jumped and shook her head. The mountain and the purple light faded, being replaced by Tinkerbell's worried face. "Your eyes just turned purple, are you okay?"
"I saw it" Vidia said, her voice dreamlike.
"What?"
Vidia cleared her throat before answering. "I don't know, it was like I could see the Duskmoth."
"Really? Do you know where it is now?" Tinkerbell looked excited.
Vidia nodded as she felt a sudden surge of heat emanate from her heart. "I don't know exactly where it is, but I don't think it went very far. In fact..."
Vidia paused as she heard the Duskmoth's growl echo through her mind and her eyes flashed purple again.
"I think we'll be seeing it again very soon" She turned to Tinkerbell, who smiled. They both turned to gaze up at the moon as another growl tore through the air.
