And the promised second version for the same situation. For all who want a happier ending for those two (me, for example ;)
It was so ridiculous; she would have laughed if she could.
She was dying.
Felicity wondered how her eyes could still produce tears when her body was subsiding to death, but there she was, lying on the floor in Oliver's bureau, dying with mascara streaming down her cheeks.
Alone.
"Felicity!"
A small sigh escaped her cold lips. Cancel that "alone."
"Fel… no." Oliver's voice broke as he knelt beside the young woman. "Felicity."
"Hey." Her voice sounded strange in her ears. "You…"
"Shh, don't talk." Gently and warm Oliver's fingers touched her lips, his face folded to something that probably should be a smile. "I know this is really hard, but you can't talk right now. You will get through this, okay? You have to. Just hold on." He took her into his arms and then quickly turned his head away as tears blinked in his eyes. "Hold on, Felicity!"
Through the ice she felt the strength of his arms around her broken body. Why did she have to die now? Couldn't she just live another hour, another lifetime, safe in his arms?
But if she lived, he would leave her again.
"It's okay, Oliver", she whispered hoarsely, tasting blood in her mouth. "It's okay, you… you are…" Her lips stopped moving, she was floating, floating away, through time and space… why now? Why now?
"Felicity, don't! Please! Don't leave me. Not you too." Oliver's tears fell on her face as he looked for a sign of life in her eyes.
She was alive, she was! More than ever before. But as she tried to say something her lips refused to move.
"Felicity, please! Dig and I, we… I need you. And I", his voice was loud with surprise, as if he had just realized it.
Maybe he had.
"I love you."
The world disappeared.
Pearl white light embraced Felicity. After the sound of her labored breathing and blood pulsating out of her body, it was quiet now. Wonderfully, peacefully quiet.
Only when she opened her eyes, Felicity fully understood.
She was alive.
"Hey!" A big hand reached for hers, followed by a sight she had only dreamt of: Oliver smiling. Truly smiling, without any sadness or regret hidden in his eyes. "Welcome back."
"Thank you, boss." Felicity felt herself smile so widely that her face hurt after only a moment but she couldn't stop.
She was alive. He was here.
Then suddenly, Oliver's smile disappeared. He sat down at the hospital bed, concentrating at the hand she was still holding. "I can't tell you how sorry I am for what happened. I never wanted to put you into danger, Felicity. I would rather… I can't risk that ever again."
The happiness around her burst, leaving Felicity with the memory of their talk about Isabelle. The reason why she had been happy when she was dying, despite the fact that – well, that she was dying.
"Oliver…" the tears of happiness turned to tears of fear, "please, it's okay. It's really okay, I knew what I did, and I…"
"No, Felicity." Oliver shook his head and kissed her hand. "I will not lose you. I wouldn't survive that." He stood up and almost ran to the door.
"You're losing me right now!" Felicity sat up, ignoring the sharp pain in her belly. Oliver turned around. "What…"
"I love you." The words slipped over her lips before she could stop them, and as Oliver slowly walked towards her she simply kept talking, whatever it took to make him stay. She would not run, and she would not let him run away.
"I know you're afraid of losing people, that's alright, that's normal – you are normal, Oliver. You are a hero but you're still human, of course you need your family and your friends. And we are here. Okay, I almost died and no, that wasn't kind on my wishing list for Chanukka but it's my life, Oliver, and I decide how I want to spend it. And with whom. And I… I love you, Oliver. I just…" For the fracture of a second Felicity got to wonder how close Oliver had come.
Then his lips met hers.
"Oh… wow."
Oliver giggled, his arms wrapped around her, carefully but tightly. "Very eloquent, Ms. Smoak." He kissed her again. "But I can't go on like that. I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to you."
Felicity shook her head. "You can't control that, Oliver. All you can do is…" she bit her lips but then dared saying it, "make my life worth it while I'm here."
Oliver leant back in surprise, then the smile returned, bright and certain. "I'll do my best. I promise."
"I love you."
Oliver leant his forehead against hers. "I love you, too."
