Chapter 1: The Scientist

His slim bone like fingers trembled slightly as it hovered over the still quiet body of the DRN he fondly knew of as Dorian.

It was a shame really. Such pretty specimens, these DRNs, very lovely features considering their primary function was to serve only as working partners for the police officers in the field. And yet, here they were, asking him to have whatever was left of them, decommissioned and wiped.

Over the years, there were requests for these DRNs to be shipped out and sent to goodness knows where (space stations?! Where they serious?!).

But nobody ever bothered about him down in his warehouse full of robotic body parts he called his laboratory. No one cared, really. They all thought he was odd (bullies and boors the lot of them!). But most importantly, nobody looked over and bothered to check what he was busying himself or NOT busying himself with, he gleefully chuckled to himself.

He had held on to Dorian as much as possible. He had learned to love each and every synthetic that he had come across and helped make functional again. And he always did his darnedest to try to match them to agents or work that would best suit them.

But, well, like any parent, he did have his favorites. He wasn't perfect. Not like his adopted synthetic children, he thought fondly. Dorian, no question, being on the very top of his list. He would never deny that, never! Although, he would also never admit it (never never never) but he would often take the peacefully oblivious DRN out every once in a while and study him.

But much of his musings often fell back to the Creator of the DRNs.

Why use such delicate features?

Flawlessly burnished umber skin, high cheekbones, full lips…and when activated, eyes, of such a dreamy hue of blue.

Of course synthetics would often be created perfectly depending on the need...but the DRNs were a whole other class entirely. They were attractive.

Very much so. Not quite what you'd call, 'typical' government issues.

Take the skin texture for example, they weren't as hardy as the other models but it was compensated by the almost human like softness. And Dorian's voice! Hushly soothing like velvet.

So why? Why make them so aesthetically appealing when they weren't made for the companionship industry?

And then there was that thing.

That bit about just how human they were...physically even. Quite unnecessarily, if his input would have been asked. Unless the Designer had perhaps wanted to be very very thorough in his work (but to the point of being quite generous?!)... Suspiciously curios indeed.

"Perhaps The Designer had been a sicko." He winced as he remembered Agent Keenex's typically uncouth remark.

Honestly! That man could be so unrefined! So he tries again and again to remind himself why he allowed such an impossible man to take his preciously fragile DRN.

"Agent Keenex is a man of principle", he chastises himself. And despite the enforcer's sometimes beastly behavior, he was a just man who would take kindly to Dorian. He had been sure and the brute didn't disappoint.

Despite Dorian's complaints, there were no inflections in his voice that indicated anger. But then again, Dorian was, as the Agent's words were, 'a pristinely prissy princess'.

This was inspired by ShadowZone85 when she/he commented that Dorian wasn't anatomically correct and I pointed out that in Episode 1, erm…well. He was obviously…ahem…very much so. So I was pretty much thrilled when Episode 5 came out and the writers decided to tackle that bit. _ I wish I wasn't lazy and posted this up before the episode came out though.
